I've seen a few pics of rocket pockets, but I really don't know what all the talk is about. what kind of position would use them? (attack?) what makes them better than a regular strung or mesh pocket?

Any kind of position can use them. I am pretty sure your second question is a preference. Correct me if I am wrong. Here is a link that tells you about the pockets
