Me and my friend were playin catch with some dog toy ball and i got to thinking.... if you practiced shooting with a heavier ball would it help you normal shot speed? Any thoughts?

could, but it could also put to much strain on the head and break it.

Not only that but it would probably ruin your pocket.

use weighted shafts

one of my friends trains with one.. not really sure where to get it from.. i guess you can use a really beefed up wooden one

slide a trashbag down into you shaft and fill it with cement... then practice with that. then when your done you just pull the cement rod out. and you can always reinsert it too... thats what i do atleast...

get a tennis ball, cut it open, fill it with pennies, duct tape the ball back together.

Cradle with it and you will strengthen your wrists, it won't put much strain on your hear or pocket.

it may also ruin your form, with a super top heavy stick or opposite if its a heavy shaft. I personally think its a good idea in theory but could do you more harm than good just stick to wrist rolls

the pennies in the tennis ball is just for breaking in your pocket, just like the pocket pounder. Im sure e-lacrosse did a piece on the weighted shaft inserts and that would be your best bet.....

they make warrior training shafts..they sell them at our local sports store...they are like 35 bucks..but they are nice..just like a regular shaft ..but with weight added on..

no inserting trashbags or anything difficult..just throw it on a head and your ready to go..

okay there are obviously two things that wil lhelp you train.

Buy a wood shaft which is a lot heavier and pretty cheap.

Or go lift weights because thats the way you're going to get strong overall anyway

although i use a wood shaft, i would recommend that you do weightlifting as well because you need to work out your core in order to shoot better

NO- i have tried this and what it does is mess up your form and release point. no need for it, just get in the gym

i think that putting pennies in a tennis bal works awsome i have done it for a long *** time with 2 heads and it has never broken either. I would recomend playing catch with one of shooting but just cradling helps me a lot i use it for my weak hand all the time and it has improved soooo much.

Warrior sells that as a regulation box shaft here in canada but it is called the ORANGE CRUSH, as far as i know there are no weight restrictions in lacrosse concerning your shaft.

I may be wrong and if you know of any in field or box then let me know............

As a coach i would never allow it to be used in a game but i know some who would.

well with the added weight, the force of impact will be much greater. so it is unsafe. also.....i dont think anyone would want to exert that much energy using a 4 lb shaft in a game. that alone will tire your arms out in a few plays.

a weighted ball messes up your catching to kinda I know that using a light ball which is really hard improves your catching and cradling cuz it builds "soft" hands.

id say just work out and do wrist rolls, tennis ball/penny can ruin your form/stick so just work out and just shoot on a net as much as possible, my friend worked all summer and his shot speed went up

tape the shaft from top to bottom with athletic tape. Then fill your shaft with sand and tape up the bottom real good with a butt cap or a quarter. Use that pre/post season and in practices and then take all that crap off come game time and you'll notice a big improvment on your checks, forearm strength and shot power. Weighted balls mess up your form and as everyone else has said, can and will ruin your pocket and head potentially. There are some nice complete products like the power rod or whatever the warrior one is, but it's $30. My way costs you a quarter, sand(free), and some tape which you should have lying around anyways.

I'm trying to do that right now, but I can't cut this stupid tennis ball open, how did you do it?

sounds like some of the stuff suggested could mess up your stick or throwing motion...just get in the weight room
