im thinking jump rope could be one of the better excersizes for any sport. im just wondering how much i should do and what i should do. im not trying to lose weight or anything im just looking for better footwork and more explosiveness. what do you think? how long should my sets be and how manny reps should i do or such? any feedback would be great

i playing defense if that matters do roughly 100 jumps x 10 reps per day with 30 second to minute breaks inbetween sets. i have seen a noticeable difference in my foot speed but that is all ive done on my own and dont know what would help more then anything

well in my fight training class we would do 1 min 1 min, 2 min, 5 min, 1 min, 3 min, 1 min, each min u have to do 140 jumps with like thirty seconds inbetween each rep.
this was to get ready for a four min. fight, which if anyone knows anything about fighting, four min. is a pretty long fight. that was just one part of the workout, if ur trying to get faster or something jumprope isnt all ur going to have to do ur going to want to do some sprints and long runs too.

i did jump roping for a while, but once the season started i kind of stopped....it will definetely help over time, put one thing you want to realize is that you cant just do one thing.....you should do some running, maybe a little lifting, throw in the jump rope, and obviously practice(just not all in the same day) if your already in good shape you probably dont need anything too intense....but any workouts u do most likely wont hurt your game, so just give em a shot

1 minute of jumping rope = running 1 mile

1 minute of jumping rope = running 1 mile
I can't believe that is true. Maybe one hour, but if that was true I could jump rope for 15 minutes a day and be in amazing shape.

yeah i heard that 10 mins was equal to a mile. jump roping isnt really hard the only hard part is your arms getting tired

Jumping rope is great for cardio fitness, for calf, knee and ankle strength, and for quick feet/agility.
You burn about 1000 calories an hour jumping rope. I try to jump rope 2-3/week, for about 15-20 minutes a session. (I also do a couple days of running a week, either a 2 mile run or some sprints.)
I tend to alternate a few different steps when jumping: two-footed, one-footed (alternating), skipping, running in place. Then I intersperse 20-30 sec. bursts of either high-stepping, clicking my heels together on each jump, and double-jumps.
It took me a few weeks to get coordinated with a decent jumping rhythm when I first started. I looked rather stupid in the beginning - basically slowly hopping over the rope, and lots of stop and starts. But you eventually get the hang of it and get going faster.
Here's a good website on jumping rope:
