Go for it, it takes alotta balls to be a goalie and I respect anyone who wants to do it.

our golie was the top rated attackman in the area-an all-star all 3 years in middle-school. our coach said he was a d-1 prospect. we needed a golie my freshman year, so he stepped up. Started, and played very well that year. last year and this year, he was the team MVP. 198 saves in 12 games this year. league all-star etc etc and he still has a year left of HS. if thats not a sucess story you tell me what is

i played attack and mid last year (my first) and this year we needed a goalie, so i decided to play since i used to play hockey goalie and stuff.

but i suggest not totally committing to goalie right away. tell your coach that u will try it for a week or two, and if u like it u will continue and if not then you will switch back

im goin to the deleware camp in a couple weeks and i think i might just switch my position to goalie if they dont mind it. ill see how i do against some better competition and ill be able to tell if i wanna stick with it.
thanks

depends.. how long have you been playing. Are you relatively new to lacrosse? IF you have been playing for a while I wouldnt switch at camp unless you only do part-time

Switching at camp might be a bad idea because say you quit goalie, then you'll have wasted 4 days of your life, and like $400 in your parents money. And you'll have missed instruction on your posistion. Bad idea if you ask me.

ive been playing lacrosse for about 5 years now. i dont kno ill probably hold off for camp just because im goin pretty soon n i dont wanna rush stringin a stick. that is when i get a new one. so yea ill probably just find a summer league that needs a goalie

Yeah, finding a summer league that needs a goalie is a great idea because then you'll be able to try it out. Don't buy the top of the line goalie shaft and head. Browse the FS/WTB forum for both. And if you don't end up sticking with it, you'll only be out $40. I hope what I suggested helped you.

EDIT: http://www.lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?t=51325
I was browsing the FS/WTB and came across that. Scroll down to goalie stuff. I thought that was a good deal. But, I don't know much about goalie equipment.

A couple years ago one of our attackman switched to goalie...he turned into a sicko and we won state.

Im often asked to play midfield....which I dont really like, but I do it.

I used to be a midfielder. Now a goalie. I'd say if you are able to borrow some goalie equipment just to have it for camps, because often camps are in need of goalies. If they need goalies then try it out. If not than play midfield and wait for summer league. I was lucky when I switched, as my neighbor was willing to shoot on me for hours on end in my yard. See if you can't find some friends to come over and shoot or even get a scrimmage going.

my next door neighbor used to play attack but then he switched to goalie adn is a BEAST!! I shoot on him a lot and kids from my neighborhood get scrimmages together! Goalie is fun but takes a lotta ballz so be careful and have fun!! :agree:
