i was just wondering what some of the coaches on here had seen as the worst injuries to their players. I think the worst i saw was a kid getting cross-checked in the back he then fell forward landed awkardly on his wrist and snapped both of the bones in his forearm, walking off the field with a compound fracture and blood pouring down his wrist.

The worst that has happened on my team was an attackman getting blind-sided and he broke his collar bone

This season I lost one player to a broken hand during a pre season JV tourneyment, then I had two guys during the season break their right thumbs due to slashing. Our reffing let too much slide and as a result got some kids hurt.

I had a player take what must have been an 85 mph shot to the throat. Made my stomach drop.

We've been fairly fortunate and have only had a few torn ACL's and a broken collarbone or two.

My little brother can't play anymore because the doctor told him he had had too many concussions. The latest? He was helping drag a goal away after practice while he was on the injured reserve list. he wasn't dressed out and someone thought it would be a good idea to try and pick a corner while he was carrying the goal. It hit him in the back of the head, and they had to call an ambulance. They kid that shot it was crying because he thought he had killed my brother.

He couldn't get his breath - his parents took him to a friend who is a surgeon and scoped his windpipe. Luckly, he was fine.
Ironically, last season he cranked a shot and hit a player from the other team in the same place. He felt horrible about it.

i had a player get hit pretty cheaply, and fractured his forearm at such an angle (almost from elbow to wrist) he still has tingling sensations and can't create a full grip almost 8 years later. He was a junior in hs, and fairly talented, hasn't really played competively since.
not as bad as the concussions and throat jobs, though. bad stuff.

Im a sophmore in college and I coach the &th-*th grade team at my old Highschool and my buddy assistant coaches the Varsity and he was fetching balls while our varsity coach warmed up the goalie and our Varsity coach is big and has a rocket shot close to 90 and it hit my buddy at an angle in the side of his nose. It broke his cheek bone/ eye Socket and pushed the cartalidge in his nose to under his lefteye

Almost passed out reading that:ahhno:Does it count if it happened to me? I'm in middle school but I was playing U-15 and this huge middie blindsided me on a faceoff...helmet-to-helmet.gave me a concussion and put a pretty big crack in my CPX around the facemask.

I'm just starting to coach so nothing from a coaching stand point but i've had a teammate lacerate his lliver going for a ground ball getting hit from behind and his pole rammed into his liver and lacerated... scariest scene i've seen to see him get put in an ambulance and taken away

Again, not a coach...
But during summer we had to broken hand/ wrist issues. One was on a player running, faked out a defender and went around, got caught right on the cuff of the glove with a slash, was the head, and broke his wrist.
Other one was funny, a guy got really pissed as a cheap attackmen, kept being too agressive, grabbing the guys pole, throwing butt ends, hitting him in the shins as he ran past. He got fed up with it and on a pick the guy set he purposly ran through him with a cross check, the guy stood up, took a swing, and our defender swung back harder and connected with his face mask, dropped the guy HARD and broke his hand, he played 2 games that day with a broked hand on vicoden (sp?). Funniest thing I ever saw. He punched him and walked off the field... no call.

Broken nose, blown knee, broken foot, concussion, broken collar bone, broken fingers, dislocated shoulder.
These are some of the injuries I've seen. None of them are fun as a coach, I can only imagine what they're like as a player (though I have broken my collar bone, it wasn't in lacrosse).

(I'm a player, not a coach)
Seen teamates take shots to the nuts without a cup, which made me wonder because I was hit in the same way during practice but with a stray pass and that wasn't fun. I've seen kids crosschecked in the throat (happened to me but wasn't hurt), broken wrists, slashes to the nuts without a cup, and the butt end going through the helmet and hitting under the eye. I've heard of guys taking low to high shots that went under the helmet and broke jaws- blood and teeth just flowing out of the mouth as it was described.
Personally I've never been hurt worse than some bruises and a sprained shoulder (the worst I've ever been injured) despite cheap checks, getting laid out by kids twice my weight, and getting hit with some hard shots. And I've always been curious what its like to need crutches. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I drink alot of milk too!:chuckle:
