My coach says DDR helps build footwork and agility...
What are your thoughts?

hahahaha....DDR is a tight game and all, but i don't know if it will really help you build footwork and agility the way that you need for lacrosse...

I would definetly say that it probably does. I don't see how it would be different than doing something like Dot Drills.
And yes i've played DDR a couple of times at the local arcade... it can acctually be fun.

Imagine getting a summer workout plan from your coach...
4-5 reps 10-20 pushups
2-4 mile run
15-30 minute session of DDR on TRICKY!

All that it would probably improve is field vision and reaction time.

It would help cuz all the ladies love a DDR player and everyone knows you dont score unless you "score" Right? I mean am I right?

I work in an arcade, and for all you serious DDR'ers, it seems to be an amazing cardio workout (from what I can see) I watch kids play DDR all day, and all of the amazing players always get off the machine drenched in sweat and out of breath

i can definatleyh see why he/she would say that for a goalie, and i guess for a midde/atack/defense, but for goalie it would help your reaction to things, like when a guy dives or somethin

DDR will without a doubt give you a good cardio workout and really helps your foot skills (and in the form of seeing something and telling your feet what to do, ie, attackman cutting, this game increases reaction time imo). is it a replacement for running? i dont think so, but a good supplement, definately.

i dont mean to offend but take a real dance class before you do ddr for footwork. or play some soccer or basketball. playing videogames isnt going to help you very much.

hmmm i think doing regular agility drills and playing another sport would probably help better then DDR, and don't get me wrong DDR is fun and all but can't really see how it can help you out with footwork but then again im asian so im beast at DDR lol

Well, when you think about it, if you've ever seen the higher levels, his coach may have a point!

I don't know if this is just me, but it seems that people are starting to look at video games as training nowadays. Sometimes people would say that playing racing games helped you drive. Then a couple weeks ago I saw on SportCenter some pro NASCAR racers talking about using video games to prepare for unfamiliar tracks. Now using DDR to help with footwork and agility? I can see where your coach is coming from though and I have nothing against using video games as a training technique. I'm just pointing out some thoughts I had.

i totally see where you got this from...i was thinking that one time while playing...its like jumping rope in different ways

As far as goalie goes, it won't replace jumping rope, but I think it could be used as a viable alternative to the dot drill.
