View Full Version : ShrekJr in Vail
All the referee instructors out here have gone to the Steadman clinic in Vail for tendinitis of the wrist after all the notes we write about ShrekJr. during the games out here. It's quite a job but we are making progress.
Actually, he is doing fine and representing the Forum quite well. No obscure questions that only LaxRef can answer or even understand.

Thanks for the clarification, I couldn't place the name as I am a stranger in the Officials Forum. That is Laxref's domain.

Just a note say what a great time we are having in Vail. It is a terrific opportunity to get excellent feedback and evaluation from eme and several other very good and very experienced officials!
eme is working the high school D1 final as I type but the rains came so I left. I was fortunate to be selected to work the D2 final with CardinalPuff. Fun time is being had by all and the training can't be matched. If you ever get the chance to come participate, don't hesitate!

too, i second shrek's sentiment that if offered the opportunity to participate in any of the tournaments in vail, one should do so...

What's the percentage of out of state officials vs. Colorado officials at Vail? and what is the average level of experience of the officials at the HS tourney? I need to quiet some of the whiners...
Vail Laredo (training) working the hs tourney is mostly out-of-staters.
We had a ref with 4 months experience in the Laredo. Increments from there on up....

eme is correct. Looking at my records, it appears there were 27-28 different officials who worked during the high school portion of the tournament and I believe 3 of them were from Colorado. There were 10 crew chief/evaluators and the rest were all being trained. eme is also correct about one of the trainees having 4 months experience, who by the way would win my award for also being the hardest working and most dedicated to getting better. Most of the others ranged from 2-8 years experience and maybe half of them having worked some college club games.

Just another quick note about Vail. I've been lurking on the boards for a while and I had no idea that I'd end up sharing a room at the referee "compound" with ShrekJr! I'm a Colorado official, and there were three of us (from the best of my memory) at the tournament, two of whom are COC officials. eme was a big help, and watching him both in his semifinal and at his game Saturday night set a great example of game management and professionalism in all aspects of the word. Our crew chiefs and evaluators brought resumes with them that left most of our jaws on the floor, but their advidce was incredibly beneficial and surprisingly easy to incorporate into our games. I met officials from around the country that I've come to call my friends, and I hope that more officials get the opportunity that I happened to stumble upon. Like ShrekJr and eme said, jump at the chance to come to Vail. Aside from the improvements that you'll take away (even if it takes you a few weeks for the barrage of information to settle itself), you'll have the opportunity to spend a week with some of the most passionate members of the lacrosse community in a breathtaking setting and a fun-oriented environment.
Thanks to everyone I met in Vail, and I can't wait to see you this summer.
PS- I'd second ShrekJr's commendation of the least senior official's improvement during the tournament. Maybe more importantly, I'd commend the official's eagerness to learn from EVERY official, it seemed like the official was motivated to take something from everyone, and that humble, unassuming attitude is truly deserving of recognition!
PPS- To the officials coming to Vail in future years, I can offer two bits of advice: listen carefully to your waiter's stories after the games (especially at the Tap Room), and do not READ too deeply into dreams of the ocean in the middle of the Rocky Mountains! Cheeers!

2 out 3? who let some HS ref into Vail?
I hope you college guys duct taped that loser to the goal posts after you made him buy a round or two at the Red Lion....

ROOMIE!!! I'm still in the market for shoes like yours, just haven't taken the time to go get them.
Unfortunately, there were no ocean dreams in our room, but then again you never know what was going on since things are not always as they appear. At least there are no surgeries to finish in my future plans! :naughty:

So now you tell us?? If I only knew you were buying! And about those "high school refs," I'd say they represented Colorado well, although reuniting their crew would have been fun!
