I've had a problem with not having good coaches. I feel like my skills are very raw. Anyone know of advanced training videos that are good? I need help with shooting on the run and other advanced stuff, not just the basics. Any feelings about the DVD "tough shot" or "be the best lacrosse player you can be." Also, the powell's virtual lacrosse academy.
Thanks

mark millon's offensive wizardry is one of the best video's ever for lacrosse, it really helped me step up my game, learn the fundamentals and what to try to do, another thing is just practice pracitce practice, its a very good video.

like stated by every1 else Millon's Offensive Wizardry is just about the best instructional video there is but you could also try watching all those e-lacrosse highlights of college and highschool games to give you an example of what shooting on the run, etc. etc. should look like

don't get the powell's virtual lacrosse academy. everyone thinks it's good because it's the powell's, but it's not.

Championship Productions has some great DVD's on different subjects. The only problem is that they're $40 apiece. I've got most of 'em and most are worth the price.
USL puts out some videos that you can find over ebay. The positional ones aren't very helpful since they were made so long ago and just go over the basics, but the team strategy ones are pretty decent depending on the level that you're looking to coach at.
There are a few books out there that are pretty good. Lacrosse: Technique and Tradiation was recently updated, but the word is that it's not any better than the original. The main difference is that Petro talks about Hopkins lacrosse while the previous author talked about UNC and their championship days. If you're looking for box, or want to try adapting some box tactics or drills to field, Lacrosse Fundamentals might be worth a try...it's kind of the box version of "Technique and Tradition"...been around awhile, venerable with lots of good basic info, although the rules have changed. I've paged through Dan Morris's "Confident Coach's Guide to Lacrosse" and was so impressed that I'm currently waiting on my copy from Amazon. It goes through pretty much every facet of the game, from the basic to some of the more advanced. thelaxcoach.com has a book of drills. I'm not sure how good they are, but I'll probably buy it eventually. They talk about it a bit on laxpower (http://www.laxpower.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14119).
Offensive Wizardry is a great DVD, it's pretty much the defining instructional source for individual offensive skills. The problem is (depending on your experience level) that they're individual skills and you'd have to figure out a way to adapt them for use for the full team.
Finally, when you do get new coaches, I'd highly recommend USL's coach's education program. There will eventually be 3 levels, and level 1 is complete now. The two sections are an online class and an all day instructional segment with instructors (of which I am one).
If you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM.
