i was just in a game, and we were losing pretty badly to a team we should have beaten. i had just come off from a double shift and was tired. i went to sit behind my coach for a drink of water, and he turned around and told me " to stop hiding from the floor". im not scared of going on the floor, and im not intimidated by bigger guys, since im pretty small for my age. i just got back from injury, and it was only my 3rd game all season. The words my coach used about hiding from the floor hurt me pretty bad since i try to give it my all. My age group is Midget "A" which is the highest level of midget to play. i was wondering what to say to him next time i see him, if i should ask him about what he said, or just leave it, and hope it was a "heat of the moment" thing.
thanks very much

The only and best thing to do is just show him that he was wrong by youre actions....be ready to go all the time!

yeah just dont sit on the bench even if your tired and was on for a double shift ... just take some water while your in the line and dont double shift ... unless your coach makes you ...

I don't think he meant it in a hurtful way, unless he's a prick. He was probably just trying to light a fire underneath you and get you pumped up and angry to play harder. I know coaches all my life have done stuff like that because they felt I wasn't trying hard enough, even though I was trying my hardest.

As a coach, I agree with the assessments it probably was a spur of the moment, challenging statement. But if you sense something next practice, take the coach aside, remind him what he said, and tell him, "Coach, I was only getting some water to be refreshed so I could go back in whenever you ask". Maybe down south we are attuned to the need for water, it is NEVER a problem to break for water. But then your explanation brought up an injury. Not sure why? Did you need water, or were you trying to avoid a shift? If your injury was acting up and that is why you stepped back, then explain that. "That injury started nagging me, just trying to shake it off".
But most likely, you are reading too much in. But if an injury is coming back to haunt, a coach needs to know that to avoid a possible liability problem. If it just a need for water, well that only takes a moment, less than one shift.
