it seemed to me that most advanced players seem to use whip in their sticks, so i decided to try it out as i become more advanced...
so i was just wondering how to adjust my throwing form to adjust to added whip? i normally dislike whip, but i am looking for increased hold in my stick for varsity next year and i like when the ball doesnt move much when i throw some quick fakes which i can only get if i have whip in my stick so i cant really get around not having any....

If you don't want whip, then don't get it. Don't compare yourself to pros. It's all preference really. Some people like whip, some don't. There are advanced players without it, also.

If you watch a college game look at how they throw. They have so much whip usually that they cant follow threw.

To throw with whip you nedd to bring the stick back farther and have a bigger windup when throwing and shooting. Just go out to a wall and experiment with your throwing style. Eventually you'll adjust to the whip.

well i can pass good and shoot fairly well pretty close, but when i go farther back i dont throw or pass that accuratley, also it seems that the harder i throw, the more effect the whip has

i have a fairly large amount of whip. some of my friends try out my stick and throw it noticeably down. one kid even threw it behind him. but i can follow through completely when i throw. it all just depends on how you use the whip to your advantage. if you are seeing college guys who cant follow through with their whip, they need to change it. i throw the same way as others without whip, and throw just as well if not better then they do with my whip. it all just takes getting used to. my shaft broke in a game a few months ago, and i used a friends stick with virtually no whip. in that same game, after throwing a few times with his stick, i played just as well with his stick as i did with mine. it all just needs some getting used to, thats all. it should feel awkard at first, but if it still feels weird after a few days of throwing, you should go back to what you had before. most advanced players use whip because hold goes along with hold, and hold helps with onehanded cradles and fakes and dodges: advanced things that advanced players do. if you can do these things without whip, it will make you a better player.

Having no whip will help you with things like quick stick and whatnot.
These guys have got it spot on, get it to your preference. All the pros adjust to suit their style, they dont ajust their style to suit their sticks.
I prefer a higher pocket which gives hold without so much whip. but yea, find a wall, throw and adjust untill you feel happy

well i play X and my style is dodging and taking quick shots from pretty close, and, making feeds from behind, so i need as much hold as i can get, and i dont really shoot much from the outside so i dont really know what adjustments i should make

u dont need whip to throw fakes and have lots of hold

well if you're saying you take quick shots from in close & make tight in feeds, usually one would use a pocket with very little whip, whip may give more hold but sometimes results into sloppy passing, slower releases, while a plus being increased velocity, i'd recommend just a pocket with not too much whip to none at all that allows you to get those quick shots and feeds off

well i had as many goals as assists last year, and next year the defenders will be better so im thinking i will need more hold
freeskier- i dont think thats tottally true, whip comes with good hold in my expieriences

Jmalins, I don't usually encourage my attackmen to add whip to their sticks. It is individual preference, but the throw with whip takes slightly longer to release in quickstick. I want my attackmen to have good quicksticks, both hands. That is why others on this thread correctly say it depends on your game. Whip is great for those middie wind-up shots.
You speak of hold, you mean cradling? That is not a function of a whip. You can have a deep pocket and little whip, pocket is usually at the throat without whip. Just means the ball rolls up the strings until released. May need to change your head, pay attention to how you hold your stick, or just practice.
Someone mentioned they had whip but followed through. My son uses a lot of whip, is very accurate, follows through. But the followthrough is without the ball. I use traditional stringing, never tried a Rockitpocket with no whip. Always wondered if the channel would make a more accurate throw without whip than even traditional.

well i meant for fakes, like faking feeds or quick fake shots to get the goalie/defenders the flinch just atleast a little bit,
when i throw fakes i like when the ball doesnt move, so i cant really throw fakes without that so i guess i need some whip
