You missed the tryouts for basically any team where you will get lots of exposure to college coaches this summer. I know Goldberg runs the South Florida Select team but being im from north florida cant say i know too much about it. The Possums are very good and have tryouts in august but they concentrate on north florida. Team Florida is making their debut at the Battle of The Hotbeds(Delaware) at the end of July. This should be the best team out of the three but the tryouts were at the Florida Elite Showcase at the end of may.

Also you may want to look into a recruiting service. Sorry but I cant really reccomend any offhand.

Yes, now would be a good time to start the process. First thing you need to think about is the actual school though. What do you want to study, what size school do you want to attend, where do I want to go, can you get in? All of that fun stuff. After that, it's just like anybody else. You may be in FL, but unless you play for an elite school that everyone knows, you still have to work to get recruited.

Anyways, to get noticed you'll want to let coaches know you're interested. This is why you choose the schools based on other reasons before lacrosse so your choices are narrowed down. E-mail or call them to show interest. Even think about visiting campuses and meeting with a coach. At tournaments, coaches generally have a list with all their prospects. They follow those players around and watch them play. Coaches don't watch random games, they have their own agenda, so make sure you tell them that 1. You're interested, 2. You'll be attending this camp/tournament and 3. Your game times so they can come watch you specifically.

It's basically marketing. Any awards, select teams or press about you will help you get out there, but in the end you're going to have to get word out by yourself. You have to let coaches know you exist or else how would they know that such and such plays in FL? So, send e-mails out, go visit campuses, call coaches. Just promote yourself so they know you exist. If you're good enough, they'll want you, they just have to know you're there for taking.

I live in Florida but coaches look for good atletes. I know in the final game UVA vs. Umass they said one of the players sent in only a hockey and football tape into Dom Starsia and he recriuted him without even looking at anything with him and lacrosse so alot of college coaches want good solid atheletes so try to play as many sports as you can without getting burned out.

Its never too early to start.

Check out berecruited.com. Its free to join, but if you pay the $19.95 you can upload video, and use the letter of interest section. There you can chose from 4 different letters, and it has a pull down menu that lists most of the DI, DII, and DIII coaches. You just select the letter you want, select the coach and press send. I was contacted by about 25 coaches just from that site alone. Good luck.

ya a lot of colleges (especially UVA) have started goin w/ this recrutin idea that it's easier to get a big/quick guy & make him a great ball handler then it is to get a great ball handler & make him a big/quick guy...not all college go by this & this isnt always the best recruitin choice anyways it jsut depends on each case

I think it's a little harder to just be an athelte in Florida. Since Florida is a non-hotbed state, you have to be an exceptional player to play D1 from here. Even if your one of the best players in the state, it's going to be hard to get recruited because there are also very good players up north where there is better competition. Your best bet is to play for teams like The Possums or South Florida Select that go to big name tournaments so that you can get more exposure. Most of the time, especially in a non-hotbed area, you go to the coaches more than the coaches come to you. So just work hard, go to recruiting camps, and have fun and if your good enough, you'll get some recognition.

Are you the freshman kid that started last season? If so, you're pretty nasty.

actually that statement rite there is wrong. alot of college scouts say that Florida has alot of athletes. these athletes dont get really good in Florida mostly cuz they dont go to one of the best skools in florida for lax. Florida does produce alot of good/great athletes

I wasn't saying that it's hard to be an athelte in Florida. I was saying that it's harder to be just an athelete and go to D1 because there's also atheletes in the North East that are already good.

Laxscout.com is also an Idea. I was looking at it. If you live in the Tampa area, Tampa Bay Fire is your best shot to get out of the state and noticed. Other than that, start to getting a highlight tape together early, so you will have plenty to show off.
