The Things They Carried. . . my junior year english teacher talked that book up so much. I think I'll read it when I'm done with what I'm reading, which is. . . .
The Grapes of Wrath. It's very good so far, but to be honest, it is incredibly long, I just realized how long it is, it's like 400 pages of big pages and small font. Jeez.

How about Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? or The Junction Boys (about Bear Bryant). or Faith of my Fathers (about John McCain) or The Travelers Gift (like the Five People you Meet in Heaven)

How about Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?
I tried that. Most teachers aren't to fond of a book with a million drug references in it, it is a good read though...and the movie is hilarious!
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
I've heard a lot of good things about that and the movie.

I was going to read Holes by Louis Sachar, only because I've done about 3 or 4 reports on it and am practically an expert.. but The Five People You Meet In Heaven sounds interesting

The Odyssey is a easy and fun read.
Hahaha, that is one of the longest books I've read in my entire life, I wouldn't call it an "easy read". However, it is good.
Book Suggestions:
-Brave New World
-The Ultimate Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
-Lord of the Flies

Im taking a literature course involving the British Isles so I'll be reading...
-The Razor's Edge by W. Somerset Maugham
-The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester
-The Dubliners by James Joyce
-Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
I've read the reviews and summarys of all four books and they look pretty good. I've alreayd read The Dubliners freshmen year but didnt quite grasp it as much as I will this time around.

I read The Grapes sophomore year...and Holy God, I hated that book. Everyday for a month I swear my mantra was, "I hope Steinbeck is burning, I hope Steinbeck is burning..."
My little sister has to read The Life of Pi for her summer reading, and I get to look forward to a semester of Shakespeare.

If you are looking for a different side of history, read the Da Vinci Code. I usually do not read at all on my free time and this book made me read for hours on end. If you don't think you will be interested, just pick it up because there is a whole story line of action/adventure. Wow this psot sounded cheesy but seriously, just give it a shot and read about 10 chapters(~30 pages)

I have to read Tom Sawyer or In my Father's House. Both freakishly easy books for a 7th grade magnet school. The hard part is creating an art project about it or something. I forgot.

Read Gunter Grass' The Tin Drum.

I read The Scarlet Letter and Huckleberry Finn this year in school. Both were actually pretty good. However, The Scarlet Letter can get frusterating at times because of all of the symbolism. Overall, great book though. Huckleberry Finn was an easier read, good story too.

I have an insane amount of homework for the summer.
My AP history teacher decided to give us five rather large books to read with two-three pages papers on all of them... plus we have to outline the first five chapters in our textbooks. AND. it's all due on Augutst 18th
In honors english I've got to read two books and write papers on both of them.
Whooohoo for summer reading and crazay teachers! :banghead:
Anyway enough about me.. I would deffinately reccomend
-To Kill A Mockingbird
-The Picture of Dorian Gray
-Oedipus( It's a little weird but deffinately worth reading.)
