This is why we made a goalie forum...I dont think non-goalies should be in here. Lax_dude, unless you have ever personally saved a bounce shot, please dont vote.
Wormburners for me, just so freakin decepting(sp).

I played goalie for about 2 games a little while back, and I remember that those low/ bounce shots taht were off stick were real buggers. so I voted low weak side, but I find the bouncers low weak side are harder than just low in general.

a bouncer that bounces into the top corners

The goalies right hip side. deadly.
I've played goalie before, it's...difficult.
I played goalie, and I didn't see this exact option, so I said other. Off-stick hip, not low and not high, right next to the body off stick. I hated those.

what is a wormburner?
(i've never played goalie, but from my experience on scoring on goalies it seems as though high weak side goes in 9 times out of 10 when i shoot)

Id say a riser, cause i drop to the ball if i know its going below my waist and if im dropped ready for a low one and it ends up in the top corner then thats impossible to grab. So i guess thats the bad side of cheating, but the saves i make with that technique is worth the occasional risers that i miss.

off hip from a angle you have to get a huge step and time it just right but overall there all saves you can make its just a matter of working more

can someone explain what a wormburner is??
as a shooter i am very interested to know, lol.

I have to say hip level off stick side. I hated that shot. you never know to bring the stick down or across up. Even with the step to cut the angle it is a hard shot. :guns:

wormburner is an underhand shot where the ball stays a few inches off the ground the whole time, about ankle height. its typically really hard to save because you almost always change planes when shooting, especially underhanded. this highly confuses the goalie. its like trying to catch a moth out of midair, it always seems to get away from your hand with almost no room to spare. think like, if any worms were sticking their heads out of the ground...BURN!!!

Off stick hip, you dont no whether to go over the top or underneath.

Im gonna say bounce shots or off hip shots. I have not ever played goalie in a game but I get my dads fishing net out and have freinds shoot on me with tennis balls. We take turns, and its a crapload of fun, especially when someone gets hit in the face or the hands(we dont wear gloves).

Do you want me or someone else to add hip choices to the poll? It's kind of an important place, I personally thing weak side (off-stick) hip is hard to save. Anything that's on the crease really, which is pretty much the whole wlax game, so looks like I'm out of luck.

Between off-stick hip and off-stick high, and hard bouncers that bounce at the crease and hit the top corner.

I Luv to take the bouncer right in front of the goalie, especially in field because it can always take a bad bounce if the team has a bad field or depending on weather the ball can bounce totally different
i.e. if it's wet there will be a slow bounce, if its dry youll have a fast bounce

Lowside weak for me. People always seem to score on me there. I believe there was a thread on this before but with no poll.

Personally its bounce to off hip weak side. or a worm burner, they are just so hard to anticipate(sp) where to go high or low

those ones where the come from the complete other end that have random bounces and no rythem to it or ones from the other end your not expecting.
3 years ago in house leuge i threw the ball to the other end on an open net it hit the crossbar and bounced all the way back and by the time i realized that it was comming back it was already like 2 feet away it bounced underneath my stick and went in my own net it pissed me off

i said bounce because whenever i play golie (ocationally) because in the fields suck here in miami and it rains alot or it can be really dry so its hard to know where the shot is going.

Bounce shots right off the crease. They will go anywhere too if you are playing on a bad field thats all bumpy.

I play goalie and attack.. i have a real problem with offstick low, because im 6'2", and thats a long way to go.... i get em most of the time though

Off hip. For some odd reason, off hip is always my weak area.
I see that on the poll that many have put low weak side. I would have voted in that area, but I have noticed that lately I have worked with that side the most. Many of times, I think that side becomes the most trained just simply because it is the "hardest spot" for many, and then they start to lack in other areas because they are less trained. I don't know if anyone else has had that happen, but I did about two years ago...it started to not be a problem once the season had started going, but for a while there in the beginning about 70% of the shots we took from coaches during practice were there.

i would say it all depends on where the shooter is. i would say top center is the hardest shot to save no matter where is it shot. but in general i would say off hip and acutally lately stickside hip has been giving me trouble becuase i always overshoot it and miss it

I hate bouncers that hit the ground, then take a wierd bounce and go crazy.

Ur right those probably are the worse, but i voted for the wormburner, i always think they are going to be an elevator type shot and then they always stay on the ground.
Or since my temas field was horrible this past season, the wormburners would sometimes stay down and other times bounce up right at the end. It was the devil

honestly, nothing screws me up more than a stick side high shot that is moving slowly. i know it sounds ridicuolous, but in the midst of a game my intensity is so high i'm like thrown off.
PuLsE_SpEeD
07-17-2006, 09:06 AM
shots that go right above my head are the worst...I'll have my eyes on the ball and I'll put my stick straight up and almost everytime it just sails past me, and it gets me frustrated that I can have that shot taken 100 times durin a warm-up and save it, yet during practice or games they just whiz right over me (I'm 5"4')
Off- hip, i never know how exactly to move my stick there

Stick low is my hardest spot. Everywhere else, I'm really consistant on making the saves. Sucking up bouncers is no problem, the occasional crazy bounce gets by, but not much of anything else. I just get lazy and don't step really well stick side low, since it's strong side and everything. Risers would be my 2nd hardest shot to save, or maybe first, i dunno. Though I've gotten better at staying still and waiting for the ball instead of dropping the stick when the guy shooting drops his.

To be honest, any shot at the hip is the hardest for me to save. I usually nab anything up high and i always drop down to cut off anything below my waist, but for the shots that go hip height i always have a hard time stepping to it and swinging my stick in time. I really hate off side hip because as mentioned before its hard to judge if you should go over the top or swing through the bottom to step and cut it off...

low weak side def. thats where i shoot and it works most of the time
LAXgoalHVLA
07-18-2006, 03:18 AM
ok, for me it depends how far the shooter is. But the hardest shot has to be a skip sht. The shooter looks like he shooting sidearm,(3/4), and it angels down and skips up high. My old coach would stand 15 yrds away and rip a shot and it would skip top corner. Other then that shot, it veries form where the shooter is.

I think high weak side is easier than lower stick side because you have to control your stick up higher a lot more than you do down low.. but it is a tough one they are both really hard almost even

Off- hip, i never know how exactly to move my stick there
yeah i know exactly what ur saying got beat there today cause i went over the top instead of under. thats one of the hardest judgements for me to make

i voted off sick hip cause i play with my hands really close together which makes it hard to get to going over(like on a off stick high shot) or going under(like on a off stick low shot) but risers to the off stick high can be deadly and so can high bounce shots on turf

offside hip is the hardest in a literal sense. you have your hands on your strong side and you have to turn your stick or sweep high to get the offside hip. personally i think its harder than low-offside sweep. on contrary, offside sweep is my favorite to do because you always piss off the shooter when you save it.

I'm actually a goalie, and off-stick high is the hardest. At my level there are the exceptional few that can hit the corner perfectally and I can never seem to get to it no matter how hard I try. I'm getting better, though.

trick shots!! most of the time a trick shot(behind the back, between the legs, even off the shaft, etc.) are thrown at a very close range making them very quick and very unexpected. They may look like the shooter is showing off but its a great tactic, i feel. any trick shot thrown will be unexpected and unless you have someone throwing these shots at you then you will have never even seen it coming
