i posted this in a different forum but i think it is more appropriate here...i have heard that white mesh hides the ball, to goalies- does it really make that much of a difference?

some say it does, some will say it doesn't. it makes sense that it supposidly hides the ball, due to the fact the mesh most likely will match the color of the ball, but honestly..... i dont see it making that much of a difference.

Why does it matter if you cant see the ball? If you take the shot the goalie will know.

Your supposed to look at the ball in the stick, not the body or else you'll never follow the ball. The white mesh really doesnt bother me, mostly everyone has white mesh anyway so you get used to it.

It helps if you fake I guess. If you follow through they won't know if it came out or not.

At the lower levels it might help, but an experienced goalie doesn't watch the stick, he watches the whole player. Plus, you'd have to change your mesh every time it gets dirty.

plus, white mesh very rarely remains white for cery long...after a little while, it's that beautiful mixture of dirt brown, clay red, and grass-stain green

Unless your playing in an indoor league, it'd stay white longer. 90% of the players here use white mesh, so it doesent bother me. It actually seems more distacting when they have bright shooters.

Essentially, no. It makes no difference to me, good goalies watch the ball, not the stick.

hidden ball trick...

Are you serious? I have never seen that work nor heard of a goalie at any level that fell for it given good coaching of goalies.

Actually, that worked once for my team at camp...
Also, there is a video on Inside Lacrosse's website that shows Loyola running it against Princeton.

In the quarterfinals, no less.

i havent lost track of the ball. its pretty easy at this level. whoever is cradleing and is being checked has the ball. not that i dont watch the ball its just those are usually 2 signs if one has lost track of it.

To me it makes no difference. I can see it well with all types of mesh.

personally i think colored mesh makes it that much easier to see how the ball is going to release, giving you that much more time to react to the ball.
White mesh however hides the ball sort of and it gives the attacker that much more of an advantage.
