if your finger's broken then you most likely can't bend it or anything...
Ok, I can bend it, but not at the top knuckle where it got hit. It is very swollen despite icing it from when it got hit to now, which is at least 2 hours. It hurts to point straight with it and the nail is discolored. If I stop icing it to type it starts to throb immediately.

You might have a bone bruise. The only way you will know for sure is to go to a doctor and have him decide based upon examination and x-rays.

what happened to it...that might tell us a little more...
if you can bend it then it is probably not broken, it's probably just jammed really bad or sprained.
i broke my pinky once and i couldn't move it at all even if i tried to.
I was playing lacrosse on a field that's probably half the size it should be, so even if you beat your defender you were still a couple feet from the next defender at most. I went up for a shot and got slashed by 5 players. Atleast 2 hit my glove (one hit index from top, one hit tip of index where there is no padding. The other 3 hit either my ribs or my stick. I didn't get the shot off.

like FLD said, it could be a bone bruise, but getting slashed would rule out jamming or spraining.
you might have broken your knuckle, not your finger...

If you're really worried get it x-rayed.

go to the doctor...
no offense but web forums aren't the best places to get diagnosed (even against the training forum rules)...
i mean even at webmd (a very respectable source) they say that if something is really bothering you no matter what advice they give, you should get it checked out by your doctor...
from your description though in my untrained opinion it really could be either a really bad bruise, or small fracture (you'd probably notice a bad break)...the immobility might just be due to the swelling...
Ok, thank you. Is there anything I can do to try to save the nail before I go to the doctors? I don't want it to fall off.

dont actaully glue it, or tape it becuse once u take the tape offf itll come with it, so just be safe with it
I went to the doctors last night, it's not broken. Just bruised pretty badly. They had to burn a hole in my finger nail too. It didn't hurt but it felt extremely weird and smelled terrible.

You have to love when they do that to relieve the pressure and drain the bruise. They also did it so your nail wouldn't fall off.

like others said you cant bend it. when i broke (well shattered is more the word) my thumb the middle part of my thumb was swollen up about half an inch needless to say i couldnt bend it or even shoot....it happened in practice and when it happened i didnt drop the ball and i ended up just shooting the ball at the goal from like 10 yards away...and casue i couldnt use my thumb the shot was like a floater goin 15 mph.....everyone on the team just stopped and looked like wtf?? cause they didint know i just broke my thumb
