ok. first of all, im not a goalie. but i do really appreciate all that they do for a team. I have always wanted to know (in box or field). Does getting hit in the head with the ball hurt?? I have been hit in the head with a puck in hockey goalie and it shook me up a bit, but not much. I wanted to know for lacrosse as well.

Thanks a lot guys, and congrats on getting your own forum!!

Not really. If the shot is hard enough it'll ring your bell a bit, but in goal you're so in the zone you don't really notice, at least I don't

Well, I play defense and i have had a few shoots ripped at my head and i have to say you dont even notice it. Like you get a little rattled just from having a ball come at you 70-80 mphs but it dosnt hurt at all.

I love it. Everyone cheers and you get to shake it off a little and look like a beast. But it doesn't hurt at all.

I've never had a problem with it, but our starting varsity goalie took a few nice shots to the head one practice and broke his helmet. I think he was feeling it then and I had to go in for him.

I've been hit in the head A LOT. I think there's an invisible target or a ball magnet or something, because i get hit there like 2-3 times during a practice/game. My facemask has flared out about 2" from it! It doesn't hurt much if you take it straight on, but one of my d-men got hit in the side of the head and his ear started bleeding. That was kinda nasty.

nah it doesnt hurt ... its just annoying , ive had the ball hit my chest pad (box) and rollup underneath my face mask and the ball ended up right by my nose ...

Getting hit in the facemask or top of the helmet doesn't hurt at all, it just rings a bit. Face saves are kinda fun, actually, because it means you were in good position. What does hurt is getting hit near the earhole. That leaves a ringing and can potentially do a bit of damage. Fortunately, that's a very rare occurence.

You're so right, I've been hit in the throat protector twice where it jerked back and the whole plastic peice hit my throat. I couldn't talk for a few minutes and I think that hurts the most (other than getting hit in the cup).

Getting hit in the head does not hurt. It will shake you up. I have been hit enough times in box and field and all you have to do is shake it off.

Getting hit close to the ear is annoying though, I get a temporary loss of hearing sometimes.

The odd shot hurts. Most of the time all you get is the smell of burning rubber (Im sure we can all remember that smell). Getting hit near the throat or smack dap in the forhead can really shake you sometimes.

I love getting hit in the head. Though, I have never actually gotten the throat guard hit too bad...or at least bad enough to hurt me. Hopefully that won't happen, but I guess it is better than getting a direct hit to the throat.

What I think is most funny about getting hit in the head is the after effect. You know, the part where you shake your head and look around and then finally get your wereabouts set back into place. When I get hit there, I usually just thank God for the helmet.

I was just at camp and got hit in the head like 10 times. The funniest was when we were playing on a turf field with a wall behind the endline. So I chase a shot out and it ricochets off the wall and hits me the face. It was pretty embarrassing, i almost fell down.

what does hurt is getting hit in the head with a practice ball. those no bounce ones its just like concrete. it rarely happens but when my team would practice and the coach wasnt paying attention two kids would shoot at the same time and no matter what getting hit in the temple sucks.

gettin hit in the head doesnt really hurt all that bad unless someone cranks it from a couple feet away and hits you in the helmet. Then you'll just be shooken up.

Getting hit in the head is actually fun, it pumps you up so much in the middle of a game to make a save like that. Although I was playing once without a throat guard and got hit in the throat, that was among the most painful experiences of my life.

your ears just ring and somtimes if you helmet doesnt fit you your helmet could move and kind of hit you in a way. You can get really unluckey and like if your helmet is old and really used it couuld break and peices could go into your head(saw that happen and have a scar on cheek from it)

Getting hit in the face doesn't hurt at all really, just shakes you up a bit and gets you pumped, but getting hit in the earhole knocked a d-man out in one of my games. He just completely fell to the ground. He had a ringing in his ear for a couple of days and his head hurt, but he's fine now.

it depends where u get hit i got hit in mask alot but 1 time i got hit around my ear and it actually hurt pretty mad but the guy shooting is going to hofstra next year on a full scholarship so that might be why

08-24-2006, 07:18 AM
ive been hit in the head plenty of times and it doesnt hurt, but ive been hit right above the visor twice and both times ive blacked out for a couple of seconds and all my straps poped off. have you eva been hit in the heart it hurts, i think my heart stopped beating for a moment and i stopped breathing for a couple of minutes. and gettin hit in the throat is so painful, one time i got hit there and couldnt talk for a few days

Stonewall35

It doesn't hurt that bad, but it also depends on what helmet you use, what angle the shots are coming from, and where on the head the ball makes contact.

Regardless of helmet, shots that hit the ear area or the back of the head would hurt more than from the front. The ones that hit the cage are the ones I feel the least.

As for the top of the head, this is where I feel the biggest difference. There is less feel of the ball when I wear a goalie mask as opposed to a field helmet. In general, I would rather have my head protected by a fiberglass goalie mask than with a field helmet, even though both have their advantages.

I wouldn't say it hurts, but it does get your attention for sure. But It's not like you dramatically fall to the ground after the hit.

It doesn't hurt at all, but I get hit in the head a lot, and after while it starts to feel like this :dummy:

The throat...that's a different story. I got hit there once. OW

No. Because you are wearing a helmet. that is what they are designed for.
