So during the MLL Game of the Week on ESPN, the Denver face-off guy kept his sticks in a cooler and rotated them, to keep them stiff on a hot day. Anyone else do this or have any thoughts about it?

^as do i. i think freezing it would also make it more brittle

I'm betting it's not so much frozen as opposed to being held under the temp on the feild which as anyone who watched the D-I final will know can and will be way higher than the air temp. I bet a 60 or 70 degree stick handles faceoffs much better than a 120 degree stick....

I remember that it was like a furnace inside the stadium

Wouldn't that make them much more prone to breaking? I mean, if something is frozen enough, you can just drop it and it will break. Not too smart of an idea if you ask me.

its not actually frozen, and the stick does not become that much weaker, most of you are probably thinking of how when you take a stick outside when its cold (warm-> cool) its much more likely to break when its getting colder, not getting warmer... besides im pretty sure they will get new ones if it does break

Hes not actually freezing it but compensating for the high temperatures. Hes balancing the heat on the stick.

He does it to keep it stiff. It probably does make it more prone to breaking, but it doesn't really matter. He had a few in there and he's a FOGO so he's running off right after the face anyways.

on hot summer days, my proton power becomes like rubber, it flexes out of control. on cold days, it stiff as a board.

Was the fogo Chris Cercy by chance? Because when he was with Rochester he used to put his stick in the cooler after he faced off. Also some of the other Rattler players have told me the odd things Cercy does to his sticks. For example, I heard, that he he cut off the sidewall supporting plastic on his stick to make it really flexible.

yeah they are talking about cercy. he does it to keep it stiff they said it during the showing. and if you look at his head its beyond warped from faces it made me laugh it looked completely flat on the one side. though i didnt recognize what head it was prob something old school.

I think I'd just get a stiffer stick.

(Oh, sorry Warrior)!

my dad told me about that although they said he kept it in a pool of ice and water but that would mess up the mesh

I'm really sure they care. They probably have two dozen of the same head brand new and unstrung sitting around their places.
I didn't even think of that. It must be nice to be sponsored like a college.

I doubt they really care when you consider how much they actually throw the ball during a game, and alot of times its just a flick.

it wasn't water it was all ice so the mesh wouldn't get that wet

he does put it ice
but thats so that the bottem side wall stays flat
also his mesh has no shooting strings
i saw him get the ball from the face of and had a chance to score but when he shot the ball came out at his feet

Yup, that would be him. The Denver citation and the All-Star game one is correct. When I was on the sideline taking photos, he got into an argument with an MLL ref, stormed off the field, and slammed his stick into a bucket of ice.
