I went to order a new helmet yesterday from my store and I didnt fit into the cpx (one size fits all) or the l/xl cpro, so they said I had to get a custom double shell where the put two shells together. I measured my head when I got home and I should fit into the regular l/xl cpro. Now I'm confused and worried Im gonna get a huge helmet. Has anyone else had to get this double shelled helmet? There not placing the order until monday, should I go back and tell them my head should fit into the l/xl and to try less padding in the l/xl or try to change the pads in the cpx?

I would recommend a Ridell helmet, since they fit well on large heads.

No offence, but bro you must have a huge head! Anyways go with the double shell helmet. You never want to take padding out of a helmet because your wearing it because of the padding thats there which protects your head.

Our Faceoff Man has such a huge head, that his head barely fits in his XL CLH2... his nose is like .000000001mm from the bar... funny stuff

do they look ridiculous? Is there like weld marks and excess weld (the stuff that forms over the 2 pieces being welded) down the middle?

I'm still worried I'm gonna look ridiculous... I would get a riddel, but I want to use it for my school team, they say you have to use there helmets (cpro, clh, some old one that was after bucket but before c2) I got the latter this year. So I dont want to have to use theres again. I would probably get the identity if it was out, I tried it on at the final four and the adjustability is awesome plus it looks pretty cool in person. I would even try the triumph if it was out, sucks I need one now for camps but I can use it at school anyway. Does anyone know where to buy a riddel anyway?

one of the seniors my freshmen year had a cpro custom made for him because his head was too large. Call up Cacade, im sure they could make a CPX for you.

I got my CPX double-shelled. The thing is HUGE. It fits me, but it's almost too big. When I had the normal CPX, I looked out of the middle holes in the facemask and the helmet fit very tightly. I knew I was supposed to be looking out of the top holes, so we got it double-shelled. The only way you can tell that it was double-shelled is to look at the seam of the two shells and the screws holding them together. It's hard to see unless you're looking for it.
Rather than looking for a different helmet, we (my mother and I) called Cascade to weigh our options. The lady that we talked with was very helpful. Cacade's customer service and the quality of their helmets are the main reasons for me getting my CPX double-shelled. I don't think you'll fit into the CPRO the way that you want, so I'd just get the double shell. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. The refs checked me in almost half of our games and none of them said anything about my helmet.
Point of this post: Get the double-shell. You won't regret it.

if a helmets double shelled i don't get how that makes it bigger because the inner shell is still gonna be the same distance from ur head

Good idea. I'll have pics Sunday. (That's as soon as I can get to my helmet; it's not at this house.) I'll update this post. If I forget, somebody please remind me (PM or something? :nahya: )
EDIT: Okay. This is a picture of me with my double-shell CPX that we had online. I know, it's not great, but I'll get better ones later.

See the seam in the middle of the helmet? And the screw on the side?
There's really no need for people to guess at what the double shell is. They cut two CPX's into two pieces each. On one helmet, they make the back piece slightly larger than the front piece. On the second helmet, they do the opposite. They take the two larger pieces of each helmet and screw (not glue) them together, thus making a larger helmet. The padding is also adjusted. If you look at the inside, you wouldn't even be able to tell that it was altered.

They get two shells from the same type of helmet and just put both them together. I'm not sure how they put them together though.. alittle plastic gluing and screws?

So does it just make the helmet wider?

You sir are correct.

A double shell helmet is literally 2 shells that are put together for people with huge heads. They take two helmets and cut them almost in half, leaving just a little from the front of one and the back of the other longer than the other half they cut it from. This way when you put the two larger halfs together there is enough space for even the largest noggins.

Exactly. The two shells are screwed together and the padding is adjusted so it performs like a normal helmet, only larger. I haven't had any problems with mine.

still don't get it...they saw two shells in half and put the opposite ends on to make one new helmet...wouldn't that make it the same size?

i think they cut each piece slightly larger than half? then glue that together?

they use the front portion of a shell and the back portion of a shell:
http://img484.imageshack.us/img484/2750/imageebc3089fda5011da26nnzo5.th.jpg (http://img484.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imageebc3089fda5011da26nnzo5.jpg)
1 is the back half, 2 is the front half. they are riveted together
1 is larger than what is cut out of 2.

I'm not gonna post pics unless you guys want them b/c spennys pic is exactly what it looks like except mine is maroon. the padding seems to be velcroed together where the two pieces meet
It looks fine and I doubt most people will notice. I was thinking it would be cool if you could get two different colors though.
