Ok...so i was playing in a summer leauge game last night...I'm an attackman and i was waiting at the top of the box...we were playing on a foot ball field re lined..but the old 10yard lines still stood out. my deffesnse men kept nudging me forward..i assumed he was giving me a hint to move up...so i moved up in front of th 45yard line...( we were using the 50yard line as the half mark) and the guy lunges at me and konocks me over...and the ball is still being playec on the other side...the reff calls it but the d-man says" he thought the 45line was half field..and it was an accident...my back would say otherwise...
so my question isn't that supposed to be called push from behind or unnecasary roughness?
and a second question...i was on the field on a clear the ball goes flying over me..the same d-man barrels me from the back...and i land on the other side of the half mark...and i get called for being off sides...i tried to argue that he pushed me from behind but the same d-man argued that he thought i had cught the ball...even though it was already at X when he pushed me...isnt that illegal...and y was i called?

You can't hit someone in the back (unless they turn at the last second), so the player could have been called for a push (loose ball or with posesssion) or illegal body check. Unnecessary roughness is an option but I would just go with illegal body check.
I believe this answers both of your questions.

Yeah, not only can you not push from behind, but you also cant push when your not within 5 yards... so the first is a double negative... which should have been unnecisary roughness...the second should haave been one too...

But when the ball is in play elsewhere, it is very difficult for officials to see something like that. Although when the D complains he thought Strats had the ball, not that he did not hit him in the back, that should have been an indication that D was at fault. But it happens. My son was on crease and scored when he was hit from behind. Ref declared no goal, in the crease, although there was no forward movement when he shot, ball was in the goal and only then did he step over the line. But Ref saw it differently.

You can't hit, even stick check, the person unless they're 5 yds from the ball. And it's illegal to use you butt end for any kind of checks.

You mean, unless they're withing 5 yards of a loose ball or if they have the ball.

Yes, you're right. A simple lack of wording.

Can you stick check someone if the ball is in the air within 5 yards of your man?

Yes. Thats why coaches always yell to their attackman to lift when defensemen start reaching for the ball when its coming to the halfway line.

That what I thought. I was in a game though and checked a kids stick as he was catching a pass and he flipped out and yelled at me and started complaining to the refs.

Yes, but when the goalie yells "Check sticks" and everyone checks their man's sticks, that's almost certainly a violation since someone is going to be more than 5 yards from the ball.

If it was as he was catching a pass, would seem the ball was within 5 yds and you had a right. Course that is embarrassing to the player not getting the call.
As far as "check sticks" which is usually called as someone drives towards a shot, it is the ball carrier that I expect a check (of course I really want body AND stick check). I want off ball players to touch stick to stick, like a hand-check in basketball, so that if the driver dumps the ball off you are in position to deliver a real check to the receiver. In soccer you can usually stop a feed by blocking a passing lane even if several steps away from your man. But in lacrosse you really need to be on the man to take him away as viable target.

Well, I assumed that. And hopefully if your on the opposite side of the field you won't do that. But yes, that is true.

Good point, a better statement would be to check sticks when the carrier comes into the red zone and is about to release the ball. Is that a shot or feed to the crease? No time to figure that out but defender needs to get on him to disrupt the throw and team D needs to be on their guys so if the ball comes to them they CAN check sticks ball within 5 yds.

Why would you move up just because the D-man wantedyou to?
