Hey I've got a couple of questions about shooting. First off, what exactly is shooting off of the hip? Is there anywhere that has detailed instructions, hopefully including a video, that would teach me how to do it?

Also, when I shoot side arm I can hit any corner, or basically anywhere on the net 99/100 times. But, when I shoot overhand I can only hit the corners my body is facing, and even then, I don't get them nearly as often as I do with my side arm shot. I also can almost never hit the top corner when I shoot overhand. My stick has a little bit more whip than average. I don't think this is caused by a lack of practicing, because I practice overhand more than sidearm.

"Shooting off the hip" is where you shoot and the ball go at the goal at hip level of the goalie. And if you shoot better sidearm then overhead, then shoot sidearm and I guess if you want over head then practice that more.

Wait, maybe it was shooting from the hip I wanted to know about. Some guy was telling me about it.. He said there are two things you want to do.. shoot off the hip and shoot from the hip. He made it sound like they were two different things, like one is a way to shoot, like overhand or side arm.

hey riot...

shooting on (or better of) the OFF hip is explained by brikk and jmalins...

shooting FROM the hip means gaining extra power on your shot from a hip turn.. means turning your body in the hip (and of course in the shoulders) to get some xtra power from the turn in the original position. (you probably know: bring your arms hich and away from your body turn in hip and shoulders. then accelerate the ball from turning back shoulders and the hip, from pulling the arms forward and last but not least from snaping your wrists; the ideal "time and room" shot)

hope thats easy to understand... ask for more if u need

hmm i always thought shooting it from your hip ment to release the ball from that area like normally when i get a feed in my hip area ill take a low to high shot or or a sidearm shot

for ur problem wiht ur overhand corner thing , u may have a little too much "hook" , just make ur pocket a bit smaller and fully extend.

and for you problem of only shooting where your body is facing , if you think u will be too predictiable in a game , then pratice faking and getting a quick shot off to the other corner or another side of the net.

It's not that I'm worried about being predictable, it's just that it's kind of annoying to have to completly reposition yourself just to hit a different corner.

If your stick has a little more whip, try decreasing the whip so you can hit the top corners easier or stop the motion of your shot sooner. Simple as that.

Good luck.
