you know how an offense sets up in a formation (formation, the word i meant to say) well there are many different ones and variations of them, but how can you drill a team into remembering where to go when a formation or play is called

You're talking about settled offense. There's a few ways to get it to stick in players heads. Run the plays at every practice, day in and day out. Repitition is the key to making that work. We usually had a number of plays when I was in high school and our coach would give out a packet at the start of every year with diagrams of each so that everyone would have an idea of how they're supposed to look on paper and so everyone would know them ahead of time. That way he could iron out any questions right away and then go right into practicing the plays.

As for choosing which ones to use and run....that's up the the coach. There are so many to choose from or you can just make some up if you want. Just find out what works best with the team and then go with it. Hope that helps.
