threads like this always turn into flame wars, pissing contests, or just plain old highly unrealistic. And why does it really matter? I suggest this thread be closed before it even starts.

Im honestly not that tall, and I know the taller kids in my league run faster because of their long legs. But dont worry, Im practicing. Everyone on my team is going into 9th grade and im the second fastest (were all pretty average size incoming 9th graders). Right now for my height, 6.3 is not terrible.

did anyone see that story on sportscenter a year or two back over 40 times? some guys on there debated that the only thing a 40 is good for is a college scholarship. it was more of a football thing, but nonetheless. i guess they are kind of right. theres too many variables differentiating from actual gameplay to even argue over a few miliseconds (equipment, mindset, surface, endurance). so yeah unless they start taking 40 times in lacrosse games for points, i dont see it as a very accurate stat--but is still very reasonable to consider. but thats just me. anyways...

My lifts are:
Squat was 525, now is more along the lines of 455 or so. I tore two ligaments in my ankle and a calf muscle so for last 4 months I've been in rehab and what not. Just started lifting with leg oriented exercises in the past 2 weeks.

Deadlift was 565, same thing haven't done it in 4 months. Now it's around 475 or so.

Bench 250, bench is by farm my weakest lift, always has been. Just hoping to eventually break 315.

I actually got into Dartmouth, Princeton, and UGA.....My family all went to Ole Miss and I've been coming here since I was 6 weeks old on a yearly basis. There are more things to it then that but I won't be getting into that on here heh.

There must also be a tradition of bullstuff at Ole Miss because the only people that would choose Ole Miss over Dartmouth and Princeton aren't smart enough to get into either.

Reggie Bush runs the 40 in 4.33 seconds according to Wikipedia. My 40 was timed on one of those lazer timers about 2 weeks ago and got 4.733 seconds. I'm roughly four tenths of a second slower than Reggie. Four tenths of a second is a big difference. I'm not even the fastest person on my team so yes, there are alot of high school kids that run 40's just a few tenths of a second slower than NFL players. Now I'm sure most of the kids that post their times are lying or just misinformed. If you want your REAL 40 time go to a lax clinic that has one of those lazer timers and see how you real time compares to your old one.

Very true. Most likely bush ran close to a 4.33 in high school as well. People that are that fast have usually been that fast since high school honestly. In college there are definitely going to be people that fast if not faster. Take a look at some of the top 100 meter dashes. There are guys in college running 10 seconds flat. That's in meters too. So if you were to take a 40 meter dash for them it would be at the very most 4 seconds. 4 seconds + 4 seconds + 2 seconds = 10 seconds = 100 meters. Now in yards they might hit a 3.9 or so. Granted those guys are trained for one thing, speed.

Now faceoff, although I'm skeptical as well, it is quite possible. I trained with a guy who was 131 weight class for power lifting and was throwing up 325 on bench.

It's still near impossible to believe that he is...
I simply don't understand the need to lie...

And if you still want to decide for yourself if I'm strong enough for pylos, I got all the numbers you wanted besides power-cleans, I don't want to max in that.

Weight = 168
Deadlift = I had terrible form when I was repping 365, guy at the gym helped me out, fixed it so I don't F up my back. Max = 325
Power cleans= 115 x6 reps
High Pulls= Never maxed, 105 x6 reps
Bench = 215
Squat = 395, with better form than before.

Well not having max's or at least 3 rep max's for poewr cleans and high pulls makes things difficult because those are some of the more explosive movements and a huge part of the test. You are good on squat. Deadlift needs to be heavier. Why you have a deadlift that is significantly lower then your squat makes me doubt how deep you go on your squats. If you are not parallel (preferably sub-parallel) then you aren't doing them right. A lot of people think they are parallel when they really aren't close. Have someone take a side picture while you are in the hole for squats and I'll let you know if you're good. Most people that go parallel/sub-parallel have a higher deadlift then squat.

Chances are, if you squat more than you deadlift, you aren't going low enough.

I was thinking about this the other day how fast the best 100meter sprint would run a 40. The biggest thing I thought about that totaly messes up the thinking of 100 meters in 10 seconds so 10 meters a second is acceleration time. The first few seconds are trying to reach the top speed.

I do not believe anyone in College can run the 40 in under 4 seconds.

Your calculation doesn't work at all either. If I'm understanding this correctly:

40m -> 4 seconds
40m -> 4seconds
20m -> 2 seconds

This is very false. The first 40m are ran much slower than the next 60. Your calculation doesn't take acceleration into account.

I don't think anyone in the world can run a 40y in under 4 seconds actually.

The fastest acceleration I've ever seen was Ben Johnson's 9.79 Sprint. I've read several places that he ran the first 40 yards of this race in 4.38 seconds (figured out by video I guess). Now this also includes reaction time to the gun, but he reacted very fast. Definitely faster than 0.38 seconds.

Ok, here's the deal. Even a world class sprinter (e.g. runs 100m around 10 seconds) does NOT run the first 40m in 4 seconds. Guys do not run every 10m of a race as fast they did the other parts of the race. The first 40m is obviously SLOWER than the next because they begin in a stationary position. Not only is there a slightly delayed reaction before they react to the gun, they have to start moving, which takes time to generate momentum. The guys are moving much faster, say, at the last 30m of the race than they are the first 30m.

Couple that with a lot of HS kids on this thread saying they are as fast as football players who are getting college scholarships, and it amounts to a lot of BS on this thread.

Only way to figure it out would be for someone to time them. Keep in mind if they are doing the 100 meters in under 10 there is a possibilit that the 40 yards could be under 4. Meters > yards so its a possibilit. No way to know unless it gets timed

The jist of it is that not only are 40 times a poor indicator of useful speed, there aren't any "official" times. The numbers you guys are quoting are either hand timed or hand started and ended electronically. You obviously need to factor in human error.

Interesting note: Ben Johnson covered 40 yards in 4.38 during his 1988 Olympic record setting 100m. Moral of that story? (Most of) you are not anywhere near as fast as you think you are.

Mind blowing.

But I really do hate to see so high a premium placed on 40 times. Too many kids will exclude themselves, or have somebody else exclude them, from certain positions because of a couple of tenths of a second over an arbitrary distance separated them and somebody else. There are so many other parts to being "fast". Some of the best athletes ever had comparably "horrendous" times but they used the speed they did have more effectively in game situations. Jerry Rice anyone? Recovery, stop and go speed and running efficiently are infinitely more important. Fortunately it isn't as popular in lacrosse as it is in football, but it still exists, as evidenced by this thread.

Hardly the point. I mentioned it simply to illustrate that the fastest man in the world (no matter how he got that way) "only" ran a 4.38.

Right and I wanted to include that little factoid about him using steroids. I'm not there to debate, but I will say that 500 years ago, a 5 minute mile was unheard of. So I think it's reasonable to say that in 500 years people will run the 40 yard dash under 4 seconds.

I don't understand what you're saying. Why does it matter what people will be doing 500 years from now?
