so I'm one of those vocal goalies and between being the loud person I am, singing, and playing lacrosse my voice is almost gone and I'm trying to save it...but I've got practice/games and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to lead the defense without being able to talk, the way I see it is they're on there own besides me maybe pointing (but chances are they won't be looking at me)...I'm just going to shut-up until then and have a bunch of cough drops and honey

anyone else have any tips...or am I just screwed until it comes back

You can tell your defense to call out ball and slides...

Drink lots of friendship tea (the kind with honey) and water, and your voice should be alright. Also, unless it's right before a game or a scrimmage, I ususally only say ball position and call out picks and slides, instead of the constant chatter like I do in a game.

Cough Drops seem to work best with me, I usually keep one or two in my bag.

I like to chew gum while I play. Winterfresh, I usually have my coach hook it up with a piece or two every couple of quarters... usually change it up at half. Either that or invest in some throat spray for after games. When I telemarketed, we would pass that around the phone center and have at it.

I agree with the person who suggested the friendship tea. Even though my brother calls me a hippie I dont care because that stuff works great for me.(and it tastes good too! :yumyum:)

Last year ('05) I lost my voice really bad near the beginning of the season. It was a mix between a cold and talking during practices & stuff. It got so bad I was coughing up blood from everything. get lotsa sugary coating stuff, like honey in tea & cough drops, to help soothe your throat, and try to talk as little as possible outside of practice. and DON'T WHISPER!!! it's more harsh on your throat and vocal cords than talking normal.

Use cough drops/throat coating after the games etc...most of the advice already given is good...so i wont give you more of the same...

point is...dont wait for your throat to hurt...if after a game of screaming your throat feels fine...still use the remedies...it will help...
