What can be done about goalie burnout? Will time off help? Is it common?

Some quick ways I've dealt with it.
1. Play another sport
I did this in high school so that I didn't get "sick" of being a goalie while also staying in shape. I found that at the end of each season, I was craving to get back into the cage. I still fit in tourneys or something on the ocasional weekend so I didn't get too rusty.
2. Switch positions
I used to love to do this, especially at summer cmaps when it was like non-stop goalie for a month and a half. I would grab a d-pole and play close defense, running all around the field. I got a better feel for the overall game, being on a defense and watching an offense work around me. Another thing I did was play in a box league (there was one for high school kids on weekends back in the day), switching it up between goalie and playing in the field.
3. Just take some time off
I did this in the summers during college (I played at a D1 school) where practice or lacrosse related activities were 3-5 hours a day 6-7 days a week in season and 2-3 hours 5-6 days a week out of season. You can't help but get burned out. So in the summer I'd put my stick away for a month or two. I'd run, swim or play basketball and volleyball to stay in shape. Then I would ease my way back in before our first practices when we came back in August.
Sometimes I'd come back early and work with a few guys on the team, helping them get their shots back while they shot on me.

Goalie is a pretty stressful position and probably one of the hardest things I've had to do in sports. So you need to mix it up to keep it fresh, whether it be mixing it up on the field or off.

^^^ Put Perfect...The worst thing in the world you can do for your team is get sick of the position. So just take breaks off of goalie when you need to.

I had this problem during the season and so I played middie for a little and then stepped back in, I think it helped my game because I understood what field players do more

one thing that really has helped me is i have gone to camps over the summer and one in the fall that has had goalie sessions where it is all goalies and you play a goalie game. so overone still uses their goalie sticks but it is like 8v8(shorter field) and you get to run around, score, check and do all the things the other kids on the field get to do. it was actually extremely fun and may help you with this problem. i will never get sick of goalie cause that all i have ever played in anysport but this may be a fun way to help you with your problem. i was a soccer goalie, both ice and roller hockey goalies, waterpolo goalie and a catcher in baseball( closest thing you can get to a goalie in baseball)
