when i string leather pockets with a ball around it, there always seem to be like extra leathers in between the crosslace links. as a result, i always have to pull the extra leathers out in between links. does anyone know what i'm talking around and what I have to do?

i know what your talking about, your probably pulling the crosslace too tight.

does this happen after the pocket has broken in?

if so

you should soak your leathers for 1 hour then hang em over a door

this wil stretch them out so they cant stretch out while they are in the pocket

MDLaxin is right. theyre too tight so the leathers are loose between the knots

before you string any trad pocket you need to stretch the balls out of the leathers. secondly, when you string with a ball and knife like that, you need to pull the inner two leathers EXTREMELY tight. and then make sure that when your stringing, its a gradual ramp from the scoop to the top of the ball, and not flat with it bulging up to meet the ball.

the last part is to use the double ball and knife trick with hot water to break it in. this will surely help (if not kill) your problem with the leathers bunching up around the crosslace.
