So now that im hip deep into the college search process im starting to fill out recruiting forms forr the colleges that i like, and anyone whos done this before knows that they ask for game tapes. So heres my story: About two weeks before tryouts this year started, i got pretty sick. When it didnt go away in a week and i was still feeling like crap i went to the doctors. they said that i might have mono. great. so i wait a week for the bloodtests and the day before tryouts start i am notified that i do not have mono, i had elevated levels of something or other which closely mimicked mono. So i went into tryouts, feeling a little bit better than i had, but probably 40 percent at best. well i kept feeling better each day and all was good. then about a week and a half or two weeks later i had a pretty bad relapse. I felt worse than i had the first time. So the doctors gave me some kind of antibi which seemed to work. Once again i started feeling better and then once again i had a relapse. This time they brought me back in and said that i could have pnemonia. After that i had to go get X-rays, and thankfully the next day i was told that no, i did not have pnemonia. but the doctor still said that i had to stay out of school untill my temperature went back down to normal (which was about 4 days) and after that i had to wait at least a week before i could play lacrosse. So by the time i could finally get back to the field (maybe this time at 80percent) our season was practically upon us. I had missed just about all of our preseason. Now remember i was on shaky ground playing time wise after tryouts because i was sick and played like crap. Missing most of preseason did me in: i got to road the bench that season (my experiances and feelings on this are a completely different story, but lets just say that i had started every other HS game i had ever played in). So consequently i have no video tapes of me playing in HS, but i do have tapes of me playing during a camp in the summer.

now heres my question: i want to know if i should write a letter to the coaches explaining why the game film is from a camp and not a HS season game. I thought that i should, but then my mom said that doing so might be a bad idea. whats everyone else's opinion and why?

i would just send a tape after this summer or tell them you dont have a tape but give them dates to where they can watch you play.

I don't know about sending a tape from camp... unless maybe you made an "All-Star" team or something like that and you played a full game. You don't have any film from this past spring?

Not really. Like I said, I missed almost all of preseason and once coaches have their starters, thats the way things are. I went in on those games when you are up by 10 goals and the defence never sees the ball anyways. So basically, no, I dont have anything from the spring.

Are you going into your senior year?

I think the best way to go would be to describe your situation to coaches. If your fast maybe send a tape of you running sprints or give some stats from weight training or sprints?

Coaches just want to see you play. They don't really care when it was, as long as it's relatively recent and against decent competition that is challenging you. Send a tape that features all aspects of your game and you'll be fine.
