What are some drills you guys do by yourselves to work on gbs besides the traditional dropping the ball, scooping, dropping the ball, scooping etc.?
I like to practice my gbs in really tall grass because it is almost impossible to scoop the ball unless you get low. A slightly more dangerous drill I do involves putting a board or string or something between two objects about 3 feet tall and then scooping a ball under it. Doing these a bunch make getting low and scooping through a habit.
Another one I do is get a bunch of balls and lay them out and then put up like 4 or 5 different targets around the backyard (chairs, wagons, bottles, small children, etc.) As I go to scoop up a ball my dad will call out a target (e.g. "Chair!") and then I'll scoop up a ball, find the chair, and try to hit it. Each object that is hit is worth 10 points and you try and score the highest score you can.
Anybody else have any fun groundball drills you can do by yourself? I searched and there was absololutely nothing.

I try to get a good distance from a wall and just bean the ball near the bottom so it comes back at weird skips and jumps. Really helps sometimes on trickier loose balls.

I'll do shuttle runs with a ball about 10-15 yards ahead of me, and then sprinting out to get the ball. I also just spread balls out around my yard and sprint around picking up balls and shooting on the run.

Yeah I do this like if I miss a catch playing wall ball i'll throw it from way back and do it.

The best drill I believe is have someone like 30 feet behind you and throw the ball pretty fast ahead of you. Chase it down at full speed while it is still going full speed. It makes you good because it is a lot harder to chase down a ball going away from you rather then at you.
Also just standing like 10 feet away from a ball and just running full speed at it and scooping it.

All these drills are great for practicing ground balls, but personally i believe that you do not need to get that low to pick up a loose ball. All you need to do is slightly bend your knees down while on the run and put your stick out at about a 45 degree angle from the ground. The ball rolls right in and you can scoop though much faster. The only problem is if you accidently stab the ground or go to early the stick will get caught and you will miss the ball completely(plus the butt end of the stick can nail you in the stomach when you run through) You have to practice and make sure that doesnt happen.

The main reason I believe it's important to get low is because it makes it a lot harder to get body checked when you are in a groundball "scrum" with other players.

The lower you get the better you can pick up the ball and the more you can cover the ball and your stick with your body so that there's less of a chance of it getting checked away.

Who puts their stick right in front of them on a gorund ball anyways? Ive never had that happen to me.
