is it just me or are the places they choose to show a replay really ridiculous.
like this last one just now. the teams are in the middle of a ground-ball scrum at midfield and they show a replay of casey powell's shot. not exactly the best time to show one.
p.s. i am really impressed with Canada right now. if they end up winning this game i think it's well deserved.

Canada deserved it. They outplayed us. That doesn't make the country of Canada ultimately better than lacrosse at USA however. I'm guessing that USA has a whole lot more depth than Canada in field. Just look at some of the players that didn't make it. The look on Kyle Miller's face at the end was priceless. I think I'm over it.

You should be happy. Canada played some of the best team defense I have seen since the Princeton Tigers championship runs and lights out team offense.
All the US guys could do is fire it from outside, and when that didn't work, they were doomed.
I plan on showing that game to every kid I coach and show them what a real team effort looks like.
Awesome, awesome display from the Boys up north.

Canada is currently reigning World Indoor champs, reigning Heritage Cup champs, and now reigning World Lacrosse Champs......15-10 WHAT!? 15-10!
Maybe now I won't have to listen to all the nonsense about how Canada's D and goaltending is weak, and how the Powells are invincible, and that my boys are a bunch of crosschecking one-handed goons that lack the "Finesse" :whyme: to play the more elegant field game.
See you in four years :loser:
OK, My rant and gloating is done. It was a tight, tense, action packed three quarters, and a great game until the Canadian attack just willed themselves through the American D in the last quarter. I'm happy for Canada, but I think that over 7,000 people in attendance is a rather sorry turn-out. I shudder to think what will happen with the next Championship. I really think that the best place for the sport to hold its championship is here in the United States where you could easily get ten's of thousands of fans to come watch the games.

Well, I said "reigning champs", I didn't say "most championships".
Reigning champs means best now, best this year, hell, best for the next four years! That's a stone cold fact and cannot be argued .
Forgive me, I don't want to gloat. I was just truly sick and tired of hearing how the US was unstoppable, how their defense was impenetrable, how the Powells were going to singlehandedly destroy all the competition, etc.
I knew that this was the best Canadian team ever, and that our field lacrosse is not something to be taken lightly anymore. I've said so in several other threads. Now many of my writings have been validated by what happened on the field, so I'm incredibly happy for my boys.

Rockstar, you're a smart guy. You should know by now that all of that banter was total bull. Their defense was old and lacked physicality. The Powells were good but really...they're all the same player. They're all quick guys who dance around X and the wings with a decent shot if they choose to use it. Quality attackmen and I'm not sure if there's much better in the states, but not up to Gait's calibre.
There were so many issues with Team USA that it's not a HUGE surprise that Canada beat them. They've been toe to toe with the Canadians for the past several decades in the ILF. This year was fittingly Canada's.
We'll be posting up a LaxNation Nation's View about this huge debacle for the US. However, just because we cite a lot of problems doesn't mean that Canada didn't deserve it.

So yeah, Cantabene sitting on the sidelines.... That didn't make to much sense to me. I absolutly hate John Desko. The Canadians played well but there was some huge coaching errors by Desko. Sorry for the double post, but it's a different topic, and it gives a great look at a couple big reasons for today's results
For interest's sake, here's some text from a great post I found on another message board (OLA Fan Forum) that gives an interesting look key reasons why the US missed today. One stands out in particular to me
The US coach might have outsmarted himself with the decision to try and shut down Grant. With this, John Grant completely consumed one US defender's attention which turned the Canadian attack zone into a box game with lots more room and a bigger net. Until today, Gait was mostly invisible. With a little extra room, he was absolutely unstoppable down the stretch.
A historic game against what many of the Americans were prematurely calling the best field lacrosse team ever assembled. Geoff Snider had something to say about that. Snider stellar on draws, Sanderson spectacular in net, and the Americans playing stupid lacrosse gives Canada the 15-10 win.
Stupid lacrosse? Damn right. The Americans forced Canada into a 5 on 5 game in our offensive zone by locking off John Grant Jr. forcing Canada to play 5 on 5 with that much space, to me, is a horrible decision. There were even a handful of times when Canada commited the #1 field lacrosse crime (pick and roll ON BALL) and it worked. Why? 5 on 5. The American defense looked flat footed, and at times cumbersome as they just seemed to go through the motions.
Also, the Americans for the last two world's have been changing goalies at half for EVERY game - championships included. It was obvious this would be a horrible decision today. Garrity is standing in the rain on the sidelines, and they still put him in at half - where he only lasted a quarter and was victimized for one particularly weak goal... a big one too.
Mike and Casey Powell not playing ANY professional lacrosse right now, hurt that team. They were great, yes. However these two should have dominated this tournament. That - they did not do. In fact, some would argue that had it not been a 'Cuse boy on the bench, they would have not getting the PT they did. These Powell thoughts DO NOT apply to Ryan though. R.P. was awesome this tournament. Not points wise, but on the field he was great.
Full marks to Canada.........

I completely agree. The Canadian team outplayed...and moreso in my opinion out coached the USA. You are right though...Canada is the current champions and it cannot be argued. Zywicki and Grant are both all world class players.
And to hagrid...maybe you forgot to read half my post that said how happy i was for gait and canada. Beleive me, im not a sore loser. I never said Canada didnt deserve. And last time I checked the good majority of Canada USA games were decided by 2 goals or less, so the US has had competition for quite a while.

And last time i checked the majority of the MLL and NCAA is dominated by Americans.
Really do we want to turn this into another USA vs Canada who is better war? I was the first to say congrats to Canada and how happy I was for Gait, but I was also the first to say, this doesnt mean you own field lacrosse.
I will be the first to say Boxla..is all Canada. Hands down...but are you gonna be as bold to say winning your 2 WLC compared to USA's 8+ means you are currently the best field nation..in the world...especially considering 3 days ago the USA did beat Canada...?
Again hands down performance to the Canadians...I think they did a fine job performing on the International level.
well, uh technically we do own field lacrosse AT THE MOMENT, but that could change next tourny, we won the championship so we are the best in the field lacrosse at the PROFESSIONAL level at the moment

Another great post from elsewhere (paraphrased):
I guess kids all over the US are going to be trying to learn Mikey Powell's newest move - split dodge straight into faceplant!
OUCH!
Seriously, that turf was pretty wet and slick. The rain was definitely a factor on the overall quality of play - Wet balls and pockets led to lots of bad passes, and even a bad Ryan Powell empty-net goal when Sanderson dropped a wet ball straight out of his goalstick right at the left side of his cage.

ya i was extremly impressed with the canadian team everyone was saying there dfence wa gonna be junk but they came to play and limited the americans to outside shots which was really great. Sanderson was a force in net snider DOMINATED the face offs and after that showing i would argue that john grant jr is the best lacrosse player in the world. and i guess to stop the powells you just gota wait for him to trip over his feet and hurt himself... seems simple enough

"The Americans forced Canada into a 5 on 5 game in our offensive zone by locking off John Grant Jr. forcing Canada to play 5 on 5 with that much space, to me, is a horrible decision."
I read that too and that was the game right there. It almost worked too - because I thought Jr. was playing a little bit selfishly there in the first half. He had opportunities to dish it off or pull back and he put his head down and... lost the ball. It was only when the American D became unsettled late in the game and forced too much that Jr. became a factor.
I think the poster above said it best too - that brutalizing Canuck D was tough, mobile and dangerous. When you can force turnovers from such highly skilled players as the Americans are to a man, whoa, you have a real D on your hands. Brilliant, unsung battles by, not just Brodie Merrill, but the entire Canuck defensive corps.
It was fun to watch.

Yes, I was having trouble watching the first ten minutes, where Grant was trying to do it all, double or triple team be damned. (BTW - If Eddie Comeau was the one that sorted this out, I'm picking Rochester to win NLL next winter).
The defense was something to watch. Energetic, mobile, aggressive, powerful and (most of the time) well organized and smart. Once they quit taking silly penalties, and shut their mouths whenever a call went against them, they shut the door with fairly clean, but hardnosed play. Due to a few dumb, forced shots from outside, or forced passes later in the game, I got the feeling that the American middies were getting sick of the pounding, and really didn't want to try to dodge iso on the Canadian D men. Moss, Phair, Wray, Merrill et. al. represented brutality at it's finest! Kudos to the shortstick D too - guys like Billy D, Andy Turner, Steve Hoar also did a fine job.

I wouldn't be quick to say John Grant didn't play well.... As the tournies leading scorer Gagliardi (sp?) was in his damn pocket all day. I think at half time JGJ went to take a dump... Gagliardi went with him...

I wouldn't be quick to say John Grant didn't play well.... ...
Grant took one for the team yesterday, and for one of the first times as a lacrosse fan, I'm proud of him.
-He removed the best US defender from the picture and in doing so, created tonnes of space for Zywicki and Gait and for the O-mids to work their magic.
-After the first ten minutes or so, Grant only forced the ball to the net when the lane was there. Otherwise, he took his touches as they came, and really did a great job moving the ball to guys that were better positioned to score.

Jr played a great game, once he clued into the team game. Jr. is one of the world's best, but it still comes back to a team game and he indeed took it for the team. Once he stopped forcing the O opened right up for the other guys.
**Mind you...it could have been a coaching strategy to get him to force so often and early and then draw the US D away.**

I'm happy for Canada, but I think that over 7,000 people in attendance is a rather sorry turn-out. I shudder to think what will happen with the next Championship. I really think that the best place for the sport to hold its championship is here in the United States where you could easily get ten's of thousands of fans to come watch the games.
the stadium only held 8,000. so they almost sold out. although i agree that if they held it in the united states there would be far more people in attendence.
if there was 60,000 people at the NCAA championship just imagine how many people would be at the WORLD championship.
