View Full Version : The forgotten day

So a lot of folks this year and last, have decided to skip out on the 2nd day of the championships, citing "its just not worth it." To all of you out there, it is very much worth it, and then some. During the past two years, 2 out of the three best games have come on this forgotten day. The first being last years overtime thriller between Salisbury and Middlebury. The 2nd was today's game between, Limestone and Lemoyne, which was honestly one of the very best games I have ever seen.

In all honesty, I had more fun today than I did yesterday at the D1 semis. It was a little less people, but in a way, in was nice. No wait for food :clap. The fans were vocal though, and the sections of students were kind of fun. This is “college” lacrosse after all. And the games themselves were 10 times more interesting. Give me that Salisbury-Nazareth game, over the Hopkins-Cuse semifinal game any day of the week. The later was a lot more standing around, and Mike Powell trying to be more than he actually is. Salisbury was(is) the best "team" I've seen in a long time. No flips or dancing or anything, just good hard team oriented lacrosse. The team also showed a lot of class there at the end. Not only did they not run up the score, they passed the ball away, despite having point blank empty net chances. Sure they did put one it, but they deserved it. They’re clapping and cheering for the golden flyers during the trophy presentation, and tossing various pieces of equipment into the stands, was a nice touch to boot. The Nazareth goalie played pretty much out of his mind, and put up the best goalie performance since Tillman last year.

The limestone-Lemoyne final, was the best game of the tournament, and probably the best I've seen in a long time. Unlike every other game, there wasn't a clear dominant team. It was back and forth, and despite having no allegiance to either team, I was on the edge of my seat the entire game. I swear I thought limestone had won it, and nearly left with 30 seconds left. That would've been a huge mistake... So your probably wondering what my point to all this is, and it’s simple. With all the hype and hoopla that surrounds the D1 things, today was a really nice breath of fresh air. So next time you think about skipping that 2nd day, perhaps you might want to rethink it.

well said. I would also like to say that as a student of Nazareth college that I'm very proud of my Flyers. If you want to find the true meaning of team this is it. Sure they have there stars like Bryan Adams ect. but they play within the system and play as a team. Alex, the Naz goail, played the best game I've ever seen him play (I went to all the home games). He has improved sooo much over the season, and he is only a sophomore. In fact Naz is only graduating 4 seniors and a very large part of the team is coming back. So look for my flyers next year. GO FLYERS!!

i agree 100%. i went to limestone's semifinals game against mercyhurst and they play amazing. they really got the crowd going in the end and were able to use it to help bounce back to win the game.

I agree apm about everything EXCEPT the salsbury over hopkins/cuse..in my opinion it was just a better high school team..tons of dropped balls, bad throws, bad catchs and bad plays but I still enjoyed it very much. Now the limestone game was by far the best lacrosse game i've ever seen. That was seriously the first time i've ever got up and cheered or yelled for a team like i was doing today. Where did you sit? And btw the food lines were great :) I got my 2 orders of chicken fingers/fries in a hurry (damn those things are good)

EDIT: forgot to add but I loved the way salsbury players got in it with the crowd especially the goalie (33) there a good team and deserved the win dont take what I said up there to bash them

That might be so, but to me Salisbury was a lot more intresting to watch. Just the way the worked the ball around, and played as a unit, and not one or two players. No one took shot in the hop-cuse game, till about midway through the 1st quarter. I just wasn't that impressed.

Excellent review of the games and the excitement. I have no affinity to any of the schools, but was pulling for Naz just because they were the underdogs. All teams kicked some serious *** with their play.

Thanks for the review.

The Naz game was broadcast on tv, and I watched it. Too bad they lost.

yea dIII and dII always puts up better games. i went to the senior all-start tournament last year, and the DIII teams had some of the best players ive ever seen. the DI game was okay, but in typical fasion, every dI player tried to act like mike powell and there was barely any good assist plays. in dIII theres just more of a team atmoshpere away from the media, which i prefer.

i havent yet heard that salisbury won. thats cool, even tho i was hoping W&L would get to the finals but o well.

I would pay for those games too...they were unbelieable and APM i completely agree. At the lemoyne vs. limestone game I was sitting in the lemoyne student section and it was so much fun and it was real nice with no lines or anything. And I agree it took a lot of class by salisbury not to run up the score with no goalie in the net on Nazareth and the Nazareth goalie had one hell of a game. IMO Sunday was the best day of the tournament because I really wanted to see hopkins vs navy in the final but o well.

The best day of lax that no one saw...what i think was crazy was there were 46k tickets sold for day 2 (dont have the notes in front of me bnut take my word it was close)...
of which...turnstyle attendance was only like 19k for day 2...
now looking at the games...most people came for 1 not both...so say there were 10,000 people at each game (D2 and D3 championship)...
Do you realize that means over 30,000 "fans" actually PAID for tickets and rather than go watch a game they paid for...chose to in essence waste their money?
It baffles my mind...its still lacrosse...
