Yeah I use that too

If you buy leathers from jima they come with holes.

He's talking about the holes in the bottom of the leather that you have to do yourself when stringing traditional.

I use a small very sharp wood chisel that my dad has. I have also used an x-acto knife.

3/4 inch chisel, or exacto makes a blade that looks like a chisel #18, #17?

the problem with the screwdriver is that it doesnt have any cutting power and chews up the leather. the adventage of the chisel is that it make the correct length slit with one pass

i take a screwdrive, place it where i want, hammer away. then when the leathers have been cut into (actually, they only have this weak, line bored into it, so its not cut yet) then i take a knife, and poke. then i just clean up by running my xcto knife through the slit.

PICS FTW!
I used some sort of utility knife to cut a hole in the leathers for my first traditional. It took... well a half hour is underestimating. I'm going to try nailclippers next time.
