I was just wondering what the general scholarship situation is for DII AND DIII programs. I am only going into 10th grade but I am starting to get the impression that DI offers alot more opportunities. If anyone has some info it will be appreciated.

I can't speak to DII or DIII, but DI schools have 12.6 scholarships to offer. When you consider most D1 rosters are 30-40 players, that averages out to less than 1/2 scholarship per player. That's why it is VERY rare for someone to be on full scholarship for lacrosse. It's more common to see partial lacrosse/partial academic.

D3 does not offer athletic scholarships.

So basically when trying to be recruited and getting a scholarship, be a well rounded person.

if you want a scholarship, go to the library, not to lax practice.
you are a lot more likely to get scholarship $$$ for having good grades than for anything you do on the field.

Spenny has it right on the dot. There is really not that much money available to lacrosse programs at most schools. The only schools that can offer lacrosse money are state schools and schools where lacrosse is THE major sport, like a terrible football program and the basketball program takes the back burner, and really that doesn't happen too much. So your best bet is to work your butt off in the class and the field and see how things work out.

My cousin went to Princeton (graduated in 2001) and he was a starting defenseman, and a rocket scientist I might say. yes, Scholar Athlete. Look which one comes first.

not all D1 schools have 12.6 scholarships...if the school is fully funded then they do, but they can have 8 or less than that. The better teams are fully funded most of the time because they get the money from the school especially if they are good.
A lto of the time the only peopl eon full rides will be the goalies because it's very important to have a good goalie, but otehr than that it is rare for a field player to have a full ride. A lot of players get only 10% and some get 80-90%. They change from eyar to year tooe

Bwine, you're wrong. Colleges, ie UDel, aren't given 100 scholarships to be shared between all sports. The more money the college makes, the more scholarship money they get.

That's because 3 years ago Delaware's football team was coming off a National Championship season and their lacrosse team lost to such great teams as Loyola, Ohio State, Drexel, Villanova, and Stoney Brook.
