quick question here. can i be in an ROTC program if im not going to a military academy for college?????

Yes, although ROTC is in college. JROTC is in high school.

My dad did ROTC in college, at Northwestern.

Yes. ROTC is exclusively for students going to a school that isn't a military academy. Not all schools have it, so you might have to go to a neighboring college to do it.

Yes you have to go through basic training, because after you graduate and if you recieve any money from them, you owe back a certain amount of years in the reserves. I don't think there is a direct USMC ROTC, you would have to go through Navy, but I still think there is one.

Acctually, there is a Marine Option NROTC program, but it is through NROTC on account of the Marine Corps being a department of the Navy. The only difference from what i can tell is that the Naval Folk have to take physics and calculus, while the Marine Option won't. Plus the Marine Option go to a 6 week bulldog course the summer after their junior year, then 6 month TBS after they graduate. I'm not 100% sure on the differences though.
