Ha. Lars Ulrich. Dave Lombardo > Lars Ulrich forever.

I'm kinda blanking on good drummers right now, but on the list I would say Neil Peart, because he is very very good.

Its a bad list, but Peart is the best. Rush is the only concert where you would see air drums instead of air guitar.

I also like Chad smith, and Alex VH

Neil Peart and John Bonham are both at the top of my list

Carter Beauford hands down, no contest, go home, turn out the lights we're closed.

The only one on that list I would even consider would be Joey Jordison. But a double-bass does not a drummer make.

Lars Ulrich? Yeah right.

wow how could i have forgotten him. I guess when I think of old drummers like Bonham and Peart he just slips my mind. He is truly one of the greatest drummers of all time and deserves to be at the top of the list.

How about Rick Allen, the one-armed drummer of Def Leppard?

petejobu22
08-05-2006, 09:37 AM
Mitch Mitchell....lol
I'd have to really say Carter Beauford, or the dude from Dream Theater I'm to lazy to look up his name. They both do amazing things.

As an 'old-time' drummer, I was sad not to see Keith Moon on there...

I voted Other, Keith Moon was amazing and deserves his recognition.

I'll have to go with Carter also. It's insane the way he has complete control over his huge kit.
Buddy Rich was always good too, proof you don't need a set like Peart to be amazing.

Mike Portnoy wipes the floor with Carter

But really the size ofyour kit doesn't matter if you can't play it

libertyvillelax

Ok now that is crazy^^

I agree that size doesnt matter if you cant play it, but Carter has total contral over his kit and the sizes of Ringo's kit is just laughable. I mean, I have a small drum kit my brother got when he was 5, from toys r us that is the same size as that.

edit: cool thing i found. it lets you virtually play mike portnoy's drums http://www.mikeportnoy.com/monster/?menu=interact

yeah but portnoy has his drum kit down to a science. And also he plays on a bunch of different kits for smalls big and small.. he played at g3 on someone elses drums flawlessly.

I voted Neil Pert because I wasn't paying attention. Neil Pert is awesome, but John Bonham is a little bit better. Buddy Rich is awesome too.

Max Weinberg--not only Conan's drummer and Springstien's drummer, but also an acclaimed jazz drummer.

People--the best drummers are those who can IMPROVISE like the jazz drummers. How hard is it to play the same methodical song, over and over?

John Bonham. Listen to Moby Dick full version (around 11 min). Tell me anything different and you are crazy.

-Buddy Rich
-Max Roach
-Jon Fishman
-A lot of others

Please, nobody add Travis Braker to this list. He's a quality drummer, no doubt, but he doesn't belong on a list with the greats.

Wubbie

Agreed, he's got quick hands, but his beats are all very very simplistic.

Carter Beauford has my vote now that i think about it and im pretty sure he got best drummer a couple of years back. he also doesnt play the type of music where he can showcase his skill, but if youve heard him just mess around then you would agree with me.

Jon Theodore, Phil Selway. Jon just quit the Mars Volta, so who knows what he'll do? I think he's a modern John Bonham, personally.

If anyone knows how i can post a song of iTunes I can post one of Carter's solos. He has complete control throughout every song, it's amazing.

And I know everyones talking about size of people's kits, it means nothing. Buddy Rich had one rack tom, one snare, and two floor toms, one of which was usually used to hold his towel and you can't tell me he wasn't an amazing drummer.

Surprised to see Bonzo mentionned so many times.....Sure good and ahead of his time, but now dead and irrelevant except as one of many influences/inspirations to rock drummers that followed. Best ever? Nah! Contemporaries including Keith Moon were easily as good, possibly better.

Anyway, I guess I'm obligated to make a pick now that I've slammed a common pick. Damn. There's so many good ones. I guess I'm going with Neil Peart. I picked him for my all star band in another thread. There's not many out there that can touch him in either drumming or songwriting, let alone both categories.

For live drum solos - Tommy Lee, none better.

I maintain that extended drum (or guitar) solos are sorta stupid and and pointless. Also, Tommy is far from the greatest drummer. That said, if I must watch an extended drum solo in the middle of a concert, Tommy at least makes it really exciting. He's done the crazy stuff like that kit that had him spinning upside down on the Girls Girls Girls tour, and a really neat double kit solo from the last tour which had him suspended from a high wire, zipping back and forth over top of the stage from kit to kit. Smoking metal at it's finest!

Playing for 3 hours straight with no mistakes at all, and sounding just like you do in the studio is amazing.

Every good drummer has "complete control"

No.

As for me, my funk/jazz drummer is Stanton Moore, and for rock, Utrillo Kushner. They're both insane at what they do.

Eric Singer and Eric Carr formerly of kiss

Eric Singer played in Sabbath and currently touring with alice cooper....

He is one of the best studio or hired guns around for heavy rock drumming and he adapts to the styles easily....

How come no one mentioned Vinnie Paul???

As good as Lars is, I put Damage Plan vs. St Anger and Damage Plan wins hands down!

joey jordinson is insane!!!!!

has anyone seen the clip on fuse i think where his set raises up, then rotates, so hes verticle and upside down, and he plays this awsome solo thing, plus, some of my friends drum, and we wer looking at tabs, his are insane, there like frickin 64th notes haha

but i would probably pick def leppards drummer, cuz hes able to still be good with only one arm

and slipknot rocks btw!

Def Leppard's drummer blows. Oh wait, this thread is a week old. Screw it. Anyway, Def Leppard's drummer just uses foot pedals. Screw that. If he was really cool he'd do the same stuff with one arm. Foot pedals do not make you a cool drummer. Matt freaking Barrick is a sweet drummer. He blew my mind live.
