i dont understand what the shot speed of a head is. i mean how does a head make your shot harder when its all in how the head is strung and the strength of a player? can someone please explain. if you dont know what i am talking about, go to lax.com and on reviews, it will say shot speed with ratings of a certain head.

A factor that may effect the shot speed is the offset or cant of the head itself. Its easier to get a faster shot with say an evo pro then it is with an oldschool straight head. Read up on the point of making a head offset or canted. (actually i was just reading something interesting on lax.com dealing with offset heads, but thats a horse of a different color... this article was saying how offset heads were making lazy lacrosse players)
NOTE:: I am not saying buying an Evo Pro will get you a faster shot and make your shots break 100...Im just pointing out a head that was marketed with a "shooters offset"

heads are made for different purposes in mind. STX has had predominantely wider heads used better for defense and midfield to allow for easy catching but with enough control to be used by anyone. Anything pinched is basically made for ball retention. Some heads compliment someone's style better and therefore can increase shot speed but it is only a variable in the whole equation

Sometimes the pinch of the head gives you a little more speed because of retention. It also has to deal with the offsett.

While STX does have a good number of pinched heads, they have an equally large number of wider/stiffer heads for defense and midfield. But most players want a head with a tighter pinch now a days so the companies have had to make more pinched heads. Usually the rule of thumb has been
Attack-Usually a more pinched head
Defense-Usually a wider head
Midfield-Somewhere in the middle
But now in the days of the pinch where you see defenders using Revo Pro's a lot of companies have made more pinched heads to accomodate the demand of the players.

In most ads the company will make sure to show off the pinch of the head. If you remember back to ads on the Razer Pro, it was advertised as "lighter and tighter" . Basically thats just the way the game is headed.
