We're starting a new CIF Varsity/JV lax program here in CA and would to get an idea what other HS do as far as getting letters for Varsity. How many games, points etc. Let me know what your schools requirements are!

For our team, I think we needed either 2 or 4 halves of playing time to letter.

Our coach just decides who deserves it based on how hard they worked, and what they did when they got on the field. By no means does he just give a letter out though.

I think its just if your on varsity, you get one

at my school we do it based on how much practice you make....... its not based on skill or even if your on the team its based on how dedicated you want to be to a varsity sport...... so pretty much everyone gets one though...... its pretty good incentive to come to practice

We have requirements based on practice attendance, regular season game attendance, and even a certain number of community service hours.

In my opinion, letters are given out for anything, we wanted it to mean something that when you saw a lacrosse letter, it meant that the player actually worked to get the letter!

Its hard to put points/assists/ etc to a letter because you have players who change positions who may not score, etc. What about if you have a kick butt face off long stick middie?

We used to have to play in 1/4 of the quarters (10 for 10 football games, 14 for 14 lax games, etc.). Most of us just stuck our letters in drawers, though, because kids could get them for being in the science club and other things having nothing to do with sports.

My guys have to get into a minumum 1/4 of all quarters in varsity district games, be in good standing with the club, be academically eligible, have good practice attendence, and partcipate in at least 1/3 of all community service projects.
I had a senior last year who was new to the game and had never played before. I needed a JV goalie and he volunteered. He worked his *** off, but didn't make it in during a varsity game. I gave him one becuase of his hard work and dedication to the team.

Everyone at my school is techneically on the varisty squad for football but in order to letter you need to have played like 8 or 9 quarters or something like that. Lettering at our school was prestigious until the board aloud chess club to get jackets...

We have a very intricate point system that essentially takes every possible thing into consideration (Goals, Assists, groundballs, Penalty kills, clears, saves, faceoffs, shooting accuracy, shooting percentage, elaborate victory dances) and then subtracts points for negative things (missing practice, penalties, fouls, ejections, skinning of refs, that kinda thing) at the end of the year, they tally it all up and put a number on how good of a lacrosse player you are. if you average 11 points a game or more, you get a letter. also the point system allows you te be very competetive, and you can wear the final number like a badge of honor until next season ends, and you get a new number. it's very fun to rub it in the faces of your friends that you got 309 points and they got, say, 20....

Our guys get one after they've been on the varsity team 1 full school year. Getting on the team has it's requirements [practice, good standing, etc], so the letter is an added bonus. Plus, that's the way it is for the school sponsored sports.

when i was in hs you had to play in half the quarters. so if you had 16 games you needed 32 appearances in seperate quarters. it was pretty hard. i lettered both years i played but very few kids did.

coach basically decides, but school gives special ones determined by playing time and overall points.

Varsity Players of the whole season
Or if any JV kids are bumped up for a game or so it takes playing in 4 or more games.

FOr my school, in other sports(lax is club), if you play in a league game, you letter. And for track, you need 10 points in a season.
