Yet another racial scandal in lacrosse. As was reported on Inside Lacrosse and the Delaware website 3 men were charged w/ a racial hate crime one of them being Vincent Giordano. My mom and brother actually know his parents, we will see how this plays out and hope it does not blow up like the Duke scandal. I don't think it will but anything can happen. Your thoughts?
EDIT: GOD SAVE DELAWARE. THIS WAS OUR YEAR :banghead:

From the article:
"According to University policy, any student charged with a felony is expelled, until the charge is dismissed or the student is acquitted of the charge."
What ever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"?

you know, i hate to say it. but if things keep happening like this, the sports expansion of epedmic proportions will grind to a hault. the duke situation has cast a shadow on the sport already, in the eyes of non lacrosse players (those which i have talked to) and now with this report, it starts to back up the rowdy lax rat image accepted by the non-lacrosse public. in the duke scandal, pressure is on the program to restore themselves, and if they do that the whole debocal will be the past. but if crimes like this keep happening, and start getting worse, our sport, the one i love is not going to last.

university policy generally has "lower" standards... they want to cover their butts, and look like they are taking action... very unfair in my opinion.. they never stand behind their students.. (unless they are owed money)..

I have nothing to add but another link.
UD player charged in hate crime (http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060823/NEWS/60823017)
As for UVa players not being capable of this: why not?

hey guys...reread the article for a sec...
"The other men charged, neither of them UD students, were 23-year-old Keith Hoffman of Folcroft, PA and 21-year-old Thomas Russo of Lansdowne, PA. According to Giordano, he has never met either of the other two suspects.
"Two of them (Hoffman and Russo) were caught almost right away. The third one was caught by an officer on patrol who spotted a suspect who fit the description," said Det. Sgt. Bud Boyer of Sea Isle City Police. "
could this be mistaken ID? I mean I am not going to beat a guy up with two accomplices I dont know...Id want them o be friends to get my back (I woulkd never beat anyone up if you know me)...plus Giordano was picked up later by a guy on patrol...Im not calling conspiracy on this one...just mistaken identity

Ther's no such thing as a "hate crime" in delaware. Were one of the few states who don't have it. Not many racial incidents happen usually; is the reason why probably.

I won't make any comment about this, but even though I am a strong opponent of UVa and Starsia, he does know how to manage and control his team.

It needs to be pointed out that, like the accused Duke players, this guy is innocent until proven guilty.
That said, the sport needs another such incident like it needs goals without nets.

Sorry but I'm not one of those people who puts cops on the same pedastal as firefighters and soldiers. Heck, to me they are a notch below teachers and nurses. Cops are jerkoffs, plain and simple - more than half of the cops I've encountered. And don't get me started on DA's either. Justice is the farthest thing from their mind. They throw an insane amount of innocent people not only in jail, but on death row. People have to realize that Finnerty, Evans, and Seligman from Duke are one of many. Just in the last few months, two guys from Pittsburgh have been released off death row due to DNA evidence clearing them from murder-rapes. And they didn't even have alibis, unlike the Duke players. In one of the cases, the Allegheny County DA fought for 5 years against the accused's family for the DNA to be reaxamined, because he wanted the guy to be put to death whether he committed the crime or not. Like I said, justice is a foreign concept to DA's. They see convictions as nothing more than a notch on their belt. Something sounds fishy again with this Delaware case. Whats this Jersey kid doing hanging out with 2 kids from PA who don't even go to Delaware and don't play lacrosse? Sounds strange. "He fit a description." uh huh. Sorry, but DA's have to prove to me from now on that they aren't lying.
