Tis' the season, to shred.
Snowboarding is my passion and I wanted to be the first to start the megathread here.
To start off why don't all you shredders post what your packin'

Bindings: Ride LX
Boots: Ride Orions
Goggles: Oalkey Crowbar, Retro ltd. Flourescent Green and Pink, Pink Iridium.

My favorite, which I'm not exaclty solid on just yet, is a 360 mute grab to nose/tail press.
Post some videos here too.

there are more price levels in snowboards than skis. most skis are within a similar price range whereas snowboards can come in a full spectrum of prices.

If you are planning on doing both during some time, I would suggest starting with skiing. It's just like acoustic and electric guitars. I personally am a skier, and have tried snowboarding, but it's not for me.

Yeah, SHRED MEGA THREAD, It should be SHRED THE GNAR MEGA THREAD. But, Snowboarding is my most favorite thing ever. I already have got 28 days in. I hope to maybe pick up a sponsor this year, or atleast learn up to fs 7's, and Bs, Cab, and Switch Bs up to 5's I got everything fs to 5 and all the rest at 3's. I also want to learn some more on rails.
Should be a really fun year.
EDIT:
-Burton Uninc 58 06'
-Burton p1's in white and gold and white and green cartels 06'
- Thirty Two the Lashed
- Burton/Ronin outerwear
- Airblaster Ninja Suit/ Legbag
- R.E.D. Hi-Fi helmet. Saves lives.
Dang, a photo collage! That's tight, bro. My bro has a Mid-Life Crisis on the way, and he had an Unorthodox that broke on the first day he shredded it. But now he's got a board. So lucky him.
Anyway, for me:
Board: Rome Solution 04/05 154
Boots: 32 Prion 04/05 Size 12
Bindings: Drake LeBlanc 04/05 Size Large
Goggles: Von Zipper Bushwick 05/06 in brown fade (Need reflective lens!)
Coat/Pants: Precision Mountainwear jacket, Ride pants, upgrading soon to hopefully Airblaster VinterSARS in teal, size large, and Airblaster pants, size large, in black.
Hats: Burton something or other, Airblaster double layer Pterryclava
Backpack: Burton Day Hiker, I think. It's all black and way tight.
Legbag: Airblaster Legbag in royal blue
Accessories/other stuff: Bakoda Mciver Driver, Demon snowboard lock, Camelbak 100L bladder, and that's pretty much it. I'm pretty stoked on most of my gear.
Favorite trick: I suck, but I'm super psyched on this sport. I boardslid my first c-rail on Saturday, and that was my first rail. It's my second season and I got most of my stuff either for Christmas or on the cheap, so it's cool. Airblaster rocks! I was so happy when I landed that rail. It was awesome. I'm gonna learn 360's this weekend up in the backcountry of my friend's cabin's property. Fresh snow! Yeah yeah!

Wow, I was just watching the trailer for that (Dc Mtn Lab) from a while ago.
So for those of you in Eastern America there has been a lack of snow. Except for right now the Far North West is getting an nice couple inches.
The local news said we (East Pennsyilvania) probobly wont have another snow storm this year. I'm heart broken. I'm still gonna go though, ever chance i get. Hah

01-11-2006, 06:07 PM
thats aweful. It's the lack of cold fronts. There is plenty of precip.
Yeah, even Utah, at least in the Valleys, is getting screwed. It sucks so bad! But hopefully next year will be better, when I'm in college. It's pretty ridiculous that we get no snow. It keeps on being crazily warm. I hate it. Be cold! I want the cold!

Ok today i went boardin in the thickest fog u've ever seen (Camel Back) The fog was so thick that the whole mountain was under fog, including the lodge at the botttom, you could not see 4 feet in front of you.
Being stupid as I am, i persistestd in trying 360's of walls, 540's, etc.
3rd run of the day, Tenrrain park. I had just hit a nice 180 stalefish off a wall and was feeling pretty damn confident. I approached a extremly elevated C-Box (search for it on google if you know not what it is) with alot of speed, since there was so much fog the rail suprised me and instead of curve onto the rail like a i should have, i just went straight. fast.
I knew at that point i was doing something wrong and as i launched off the rail (which was canted at at least a 5 degree angle up) I bent forward to try to grail the rail to stop myself, at this point i had no balance. I missed the rail and was stilll had my head towars my boots. In the air, thinkin im totally eating it right now, i squiggles so that i wouldnt land on my new goggles which ended up to be a 180. I kept leaning forward though until i did a full frontflip and landed looking toward the box. I stopped immediatly and thanked the lord.

Dang kids, I took some hard falls today. So I was sliding this c-rail, but there was no jump so I built my own. Then on my 3rd time trying boardslide it, I slammed on my rib cage and had a hard time breathing for like 2 minutes. It sucked so bad. It hurt to breath hard for like 3 hours. Now I'm a li'l better. Then like 2 runs later I guess I slammed myself on a c-box. What's with the c's? Blech. I guess it's because I only do c-shaped jibs. I'm still terrified of boardslides, honestly.
I hit my first jumps today. That was dang fun. Like, usually I just wuss out majorly bad, but this time I was like, what the heck, and unless some idiot cut me off (fairly common) I pointed it and jumped. Dang, that rocks. I can't wait for Monday. I'm gonna have gone shredding 4 out of 5 days, 3 at my local resort, The Canyons, and one at Brighton, then hopefully again next Saturday. That'd mean only 3 days out of 8 that I hadn't gone up to a mountain, and you can bet I'll have down some in town stuff with some fresh snow on the way. This could be the best week of my life. Plus I learned a few more butters today, but I still suck at them, and I learned how to go super dooper fast without dying. Seriously, it's my 9th time up to a mountain in 5 years (including the one from last year) so I'm learning a ton every time I go up. Earlier this year I couldn't turn on my heel edge. Now I turn like Simon Chamberlain thanks to his new 7-step program!
I'm so amped on this sport. It fills me with glee.

Simon Has a 7-Step Program! YAY ^
Snowboard team started for me yesterday, We made it happen. In the morning it poured rain so we took runs, we found little ice patches and stuff like that to jib around and spin on, then we went and took laps in our small park, We setup a rail like a street rail, got some barrel jibs, some sketchy bamboo pole we used as a rail, Our coach destroyed it, and then below that we built this jump on this huge kicker pad that ended up being like 40 feet. It was a good day.
Snowboard team? Dang, that sounds sweet.
It is currently snowing. That is all.

Im shredding up Breckenridge over spring break, im pumped. Im also a park rat, hence the capita board. Not my hardest but favorite trick has to be 360ing, landing on the box, spinning down in, then 360ing off. Thats really fun, but not that hard.

c-boxes are all in the landing, if you have even a little edge then your gonna fall, since it soudns like your falling forwards, when you boardslide try to lean a little back, i had the opposite problem and right when i started to lean forward it wentaway
I haven't yet fallen forward, or hadn't until yesterday. Usually I leaned too far back. So that rail was the first rail I boardslid, but since the snow melted away from it or something, it was bigger and the jump was non existent and mine was pretty lame, so it was not quite as like, safe feeling. Monday I hope to land it. Currently my shoulder is killing me. Usually I just slide off rails on the side, not face or back first. I like your signature. I've been watching a bunch of Blue Collar comedy tour. Teo, what size is your Stairmaster? Is it this year's board? Those have the sweetest/funniest graphics of all time.
Sweet_cex, I've had the exact same thing, except in June near my birthday instead of in the winter. 2.5 years, but that's way above average. We had to move from Vermont to Utah because of it. I only got to go skiing I think 5 times the whole time he was out of work, but this season I'm making up for it hardcore, and I'm pretty stoked about it. Separation only makes the reuniting sweeter, and this has been mighty sweet. You'll make it through, I promise.
So, um, time to revive this thread. Today was the raddest shred day of my life. Whenever I'm not paying for the day, it feels better. And I progress a bunch. It's freaking rad. For some reason rad is my word of the day. Anyway, so I landed tailpresses to FS 180 outs and nosepresses on a down flat set of pick-ih-nick tables. My first nosepresses, I was stoked! The video is super cool.

Dang kids, today was rad. So me and 4 of my like 9+ bros went to Brighton for some solid night shredding. So sick! There are 3 sets of kickers in a row, and each set has 3 kickers, so it's like a 3x3 of kickers near the start of the run. They're super fun and perfect. So I'm doing the set of smallest kickers. I barely clear the first one, and the second one I launch and I get that roller coaster stomach feeling, which was rad, and the last one I completely clear both the flat and the landing and case it on the actual run. Dang. So my friend is going after me and just sees me lying on the ground and laughs at me. It was awesome. I've never launched so far or high, so it was worth the pain. There was this huge divet from the nose of my snowboard in some super crusty snow by the side of the run. My earbuds popped out and my hat and goggles flew off when I whiplashed my head into the snow. Thinking about it makes me sore, but usually I don't notice. It was rad looking down and being like, "good, I cleared the flat. Dang, I cleared the landing. Dang, I'm going fast. Dang, touchdown, I'm going about 50+ off of a jump. Dang, I crashed hard." Pretty much my thought process. My butt hurts so bad from both yesterday and today. Yesterday I bruised it pretty good, actually really good, and then today I'm tailpressing (or trying) a tiny gateway box, but I lean back to far and my bruise slams the corner of the box. That's okay, I 5-0'd it like 3 times in a row later on. I wasn't very on tonight, but in retrospect it was super rad.
EDIT: From ___, With Love is good, and the soundtrack is sweet. I own that movie. Also, here are like, my top 5:
1. Afterlame
2. Afterbang
3. Lame
4. December/MTN.LAB
5. 91 Words for Snow
Afterbang has probably the sweetest shredding and best locations/shots of the Robotfood movies, but I LOVE the super creative/novel editing on Afterlame, so that just barely nudges Afterlame over Afterbang. Lame has a killer soundtrack that I like shredding to. Yeah.

Tail Press into bs noseslide on a flat down, then fs 3 indy which i stomped perfect off of this jump. Then i did a super tweaked japan air out of a stupid little hip, then fs smith 180 out super clean, and a fs 5.

Um, well, I've got long feet too. Also good are Rome Machine ($400) and Rome Flag ($470), but the Machine is more like, park oriented. Um, most wide boards actually suck because they're too wide and you lose control. No matter what your boot size, a mid-wide is a better choice. I'd ride the Machine if I had the money right now. Anyway, I'd definitely buy those and they'll be cheaper by the end of the season anyway. You may be able to step down to a medium binding because a 9.5 F20 is the same size as an 8.5 other boot. Pretty cool. They're exactly the same as the FDB, but you're just not paying for the name. They also have the 2004/05 version, but I dunno how good those are.

Yah, The olympic team is sweet, kelly clark is insanely a nice person and fun to be with. Yah.
I wish Hampus would go to the Olympics. He is sick. He can spin 1080s on jumps that I can only spin 180s off of. He's sickgnar. Um, so my board is unrepairable, my core is soaked and has weird pop and rides funny, and it's all my fault, but my shop is super cool because they'll cut me a good deal on a new board that I buy. Because they're rad. Awesome guys, awesome. Plus my board is still rideable. If only it hadn't been my fault. See, it totally was. Big old separation. I'll post pictures sometime when I feel like it. I'm not really sad. Now I have an excuse to buy a board with a centered stance. Like a Rome Machine.

CAPiTA Stairmaster 156 or so
Rome Artifact or Lunberg, 156ish
Burton Dominant, but I'd rather go with the smaller companies, eh?
Salomon Prospect 155ish

Burton? Heresy!
I don't know why you don't like Burton, they make good stuff.
I wish I could afford a snowboard, they are very expensive.
I like how you left the Richards. He's commentating for the Olympics, I think. He's an awesome guy. Anyway, Burton screwed over the coolness of Forum and stuff. I just don't like the way they run their business. Do I like some of their team? For sure, especially Marko Grilc, Jeremy Jones, Terje Haakonsen and some others. Their product is good too, but I just don't adore the way they run things. Like, at all. It sorta kills me. Which is why I like small, fun loving companies like CAPiTA, Rome and Airblaster you know? Plus they make killer stuff.

board 1: Burton baron 157

Board 2: Burton Dominant 154
Bindings: Burton Missions
Well a Dominant is quite a bit different than an Anthem. I mean, I have Drake bindings and I've never worn a Burton boot, but I have ridden a Rome. Anthem is kind of all-mountain and is very fast. Go to www.romesnowboards.com for the specs on the Anthem. This board:
http://www.eternalsnow.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BDRMLP6
Would probably be more like the Dominant, except possibly better. I know 4+ of my friends ride the Domi, but almost nobody rides the Lumburgh. I hear it's a super solid board and pretty much a mix between the Rome Artifact and Rome Agent, so it's more suited for all mountain than the Artifact but less park/jib/street specific, but still very good. So really, if you like park, go Lunburgh or Domi, but if you are mainly mountain with some park, then go Anthem.
rebellax10
02-12-2006, 06:00 PM
I have rode the Dominant, It is a nice park board but i would not recommend it if you like powder too. The anthem is a bit more all mountain but still has the general aspect of park riding. It's all up to you now. I personally think burton is great but i have been riding a capita stairmaster and it has been awesome. Anyways i think you may be better off with the Anthem.

After trying snowboarding at an actual resort a few times, I've decided that I love snowboarding and want to get my own gear instead of renting(all of the boards that you can rent a Rossingol Roct with step in bindings. How much harder are strap in bindings to get on and off?). I will want to get a board that I can grow into in both size and experience. I mostly just go down the slopes, but I want to be able to go the terrain park when I get better.
I'm 5'10", 160lbs and wear a size 11 1/2 shoe (those will probably go up since I'm only 14). I would like to stay around $200 or a little more for the board since I will be getting it for my birthday. The bindings and boots can't be too expensive either because I will be buying them with money from my job this summer (or if I get a good deal on a board my parents might buy one of them). What brands and models would you snowboarders recommend? Thanks.
By the way, I have a while to figure everything out since my birthday is in October.

Deosn't matter. Yard sales are your friend. Those and swap meets. Also, check the bulletin boards for "for sale" items at your friendly local ski stores.

id say rent for another season or two until you have more money, 200 dollars really isn't enough to buy a very good board, unless you get a REALLY good deal on last years model or you buy used....
ramslac05
02-20-2006, 10:05 PM
I want to get into skiing or snowboarding. Which one is cheaper?
it all depends on the qualityof the stuff u want to get
usually if ur starting u can find an OK snowboard and bindingsand boots for like 200 maybe?
Your first board isn't that important. You're still figuring things out. However, a good idea is for your parents to buy a board in like, July when shred shops have boards for half off. Get a solid board from a decent brand. My board was $195, regularly $390. Seriously, it's the best. But buy a relatively inexpensive board during the summer. You really can't get a decent board at $200 for regular price, this I promise. You also don't want to be buying a board you can't progress on, or one that's too advanced. So finish this season up on rentals, of course. But then look at some of these intermediate boards, assuming you can ride blues and such: Burton Air, Rome Solution, K2 something or other, something along those lines. If you're close to a good shop, good, and ask those guys. Oh yeah, Atomic Hatchet, those are GREAT boards for the money. Like, $300ish, brand new. Anyway, if you're not close to a good shop, GO TO ONE. They are so much better then any Dizzicks (minus the z's) or any other big store. My shop is awesome. Tell them your situation and how it's all going down and what you want. Summer is prime time for a board! Please buy it then! Or, buy it yourself. You're gonna have a summer job, so buy a board, eh? Oh crap, you have big feet. Me too. Well, get a mid-wide board, because wide boards suck. Rome Machine, CAPiTA Mid-Life Crisis, some others, but those are pretty sick boards and I dunno if you're up to that yet, but you can always grow into it.
Boots: Don't get boots you hate. Don't settle. I don't care what board or bindings you have, if your boots suck at all you'll be ticked every time they screw you over. I'm investing in $260 boots, marked down of course, because it's worth it to me. Heel lift, fit, size of the boot and comfort are pretty vital things. Laces that hurt to tie up suck too. I like Salomon boots, 32's are nice, and I hear Vans are good.
Bindings: Step-in suck so bad. Never buy them. If you're really concerned about speed, get Flows or K2 Cinch bindings. But don't worry about speed. I take about 30 seconds at the most at the top of the hill, and the response and comfort is worth it, as well as the warmth. Step-in boots aren't very warm. Anyway, Drake makes solid, inexpensive bindings like the LeBlanc, Technine makes comfortable bindings, Burton makes light and good bindings, and Union makes excellent bindings. I'm moving from my LeBlanc's ($160, got them for $80) to Union Airblaster Inverter bindings, most likely, but if not I'll stick with mine. They're solid. So anyway, mid-wide board, wide ones suck, great boots, because those are most important, and solid bindings. Those aren't as vital. But you don't want sucky ones either.

Thanks guys. Luckily my lax store is also a snowboard/ski shop. I went there yesterday to look at there stuff and it looks good (not that I know anything about it). The prices were a little bit better that what was at the other dedicated snowboard shop and they have a better selection. I could proabably go up to like $300 or $400 (especially if I chip in on it) but my Dad is trying to start a new job, so less birthday presents for me. I believe you on the boots, because the boots that I rented were miserable to wear, but after a while it wasn't so bad because I couldn't even feel my feet anymore.
Does Salomon make anything that would fit my needs? A kid at my school knows a rep that got him a really good price on his board and he said that he could probably get me a deal if I wanted. If they don't have anything worth looking at its fine with me, because I might also be able to get a deal at the snowboard shop because my friend know the owner. Thanks again.
Eh, I dunno if I'd trust a lacrosse store that sells ski equipment and snowboard eqiupment. I'm thinking Snow/skate shop, if anything, since they're focused on boardsports. Anyway, Salomon makes solid stuff. Try Salomon F20 boots, they'll take you from a size 11.5 boot to a 10.5, which is awesome. Plus they fit great and are amazing, but are a little expensive, but heel lift is the worst and they don't have that at all. Salomon is a solid company, SP 44 bindings or whatever would probably be good for you and their mid-wide board is probably good. Like, I wouldn't buy my entire set-up from Salomon, since I love Rome boards, CAPiTA boards and am thinking about Unity, but you can't really go wrong with that. Well, okay. I know what that's like with the job thing, for sure. That's why I bought my own set up.

salomon makes great boots and bindings from what iv heard, their boards are great for riding, i should know however they are horrible douribility wise. I went riding with my cousin last weekend, i sold him my old board and his board looks brand new compared to mine, and i dont ride that much harder then him.
also the more money you spend now the less youl have to spend later. If you buy POS equiptment then your gonna have to spend more in the next season or two.
for bindings i would say Rome 390, definatly solid if you want to get a burton binding dont get anything lower on the line then the missions, and if you want Ride bindings dont go any lower in the line then SPI's since your just starting i would stay away from flows as they are hard to set up, but as you get better definatly consider them, they are very comfortable and i love mine
as for boots this is where most of your money should go, unless of course you are still growing. If your not really growing anymore buy a nice pair of boots, your feet will thank you a great thing to look for but not necessary is the ability to be heat molded as this makes a much better fit and reduces the break in time considerably. Again if you have the cash look for a quick lacing system such as the BOA, these will reduce heel lift and allow you to get the boot much tighter, more comfey and youl be able to ride better
as for a board it really all depends on what your gonna be doing, but for this im going to assume that you are gonna be trying everything as in park and freeride and i am also going to assume that you have about 300 just for the board because finding one less then that is hard, but as dan said is able to be done at end of season sales, when shopping for a board stay away from burton, they are overpriced and make subpar equiptment, thats not to say it dosn't work well, it just dosn't last very long. For the board i would say if you can get a good price as you said before on Salomon go for the Salomon link. At this moment im going down double black diamonds and hitting ok sized rails and its working for me, so it should definatly work for you. It is a very well flexed board so it can be used anywhere, and will be able to progress with you. As i said before its dourability isn't the best but that shouldn't be too bad since your just learning
again i stick to my original idea if you just saving this years cash and putting it together with next years b day and anyother money you get, snowboarding is very expensive, i am a true believer in spending a lot up front so that you don't have to continually buy new stuff as you progress, if you can put up with rental stuff for one more year i would say thats your best bet
edit: sorry this is so jumbled im really tired and just finished hw :hot:

Okay, they may seem like just freestyle, but they work for everything. Rome Solution is the true all-mountain board, and I ride it, but if you get something like a Rome Machine or CAPiTA Mid-Life Crisis you'll be fine for both the deep stuff and the park, I promise. If you're really that concerned, the Rome Flag is more all-mountain, but harder to park around in.

Okay kids, I'm shopping for next season. This is probably what I'll be rocking:
Capita 05/06 Shapeshifter 154
Salomon FDB 04/05 (Already have)
Drake LeBlanc 04/05, which I have, or 06/07 Union Airblaster Inverters
Airblaster Parka and Pants from 05/06, orange jacket and black pants.
Blue Airblaster legbag, which I've got from 05/06
Von Zipper Bushwick 05/06, brown fade, probably gonna get a reflective lense
Black Red Hi-Fi 05/06
Grenade/Airblaster Fingerblaster gloves, 06/07
Yeah, word. Need to buy the Shapeshifter, probably for about $220, Airblaster/Grenade Fingerblaster gloves, Union Airblaster Inverters, or maybe last year's Forces since those are sicktight, and the Airblaster pants and jacket.
Favorite trick I landed this year is probably my methods on closing day. I came super close to landing a BS 360. It's my first real year, since I went once last year. I love it!

Rome Machine or Capita Mid-Life Crisis from the 05/06 season, those should all be on sale right now and would be a primo buy for sure. My friend loves his MLC and I've heard the Machine is fantastic, and Rome's got a 2 year warantee. Summer sales are where it's at, go to romesnowboards.com, find your local dealer(s) and shop around until you find one. Or your Capita dealer. Capita is sweet, and will make my next board.

Sounds like a fluke, mine's pretty tough. I haven't seen one break and there is a whole Rome posse at my mountain, and they're all on the same boards. Heck, my friend broke his CAPiTA Shapeshifter 154, the exact board I plan to buy, on like his 7th run with it, but sometimes things like that happen, so I wouldn't go by just that. If it was recurring, go ahead and screw it, you know? But Rome's got a 2 year warrantee for a reason.

Yeah, that is how things are looking right now. I am hoping to be able to afford a new board and bindings, even though my bindings are fine. My board is thrashed. You'd have to see a side view to be able to tell, though. I want a Capita Mid Life Theory and Union Airblaster Inverters. My local shop will probably knock off $100 for me, and my parents are chipping in $100 for a new board for me, so if I can save enough from my job at college (hard!) then I will have a pretty much brand new set up. My boots are barely used, I think they got used 3 times because they were a lucky find, because I was going to get the 06 ones for about 70 more, but they had my size in the old boots. Sweet! Anyway, yeah, all I think about is snowboarding. More than girls. Seriously.

Sully, buy Union binders! They are sick! I am going to get some if I can. They make super durable, super responsive stuff. Cadets are 130, Cadet DLXs are 180, and Forces are 200. Then you have the Airblaster Inverters (Forces with Airblaster style) for 220, Datas for like 240 or 250, Force DLXs for 280, and C4 Elites for something like 300 or 350 or some high price. But they are good. I haven't heard a bad word about Union, and their baseplates are warranteed for life. They are sweet!

There's a ski and snowboard equipment swap meet going on in Arlington, Virginia, today. Because of TLF rules, I can't say more about it here. There is a discussion of it at the DCSki.com message forum (http://www.dcski.com/ubbthreads22/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=28386&an=0&page=0&gonew=1).
Schedule of swap meets for the DC area (http://www.dcski.com/events/index.php?mode=swaps)

Yeah even though NY doesn't have much snowsome of my friends and I took my schools Bobcat and built a nasty kicker in the parking lot (bottom of a massive hill) and I did a 360 mute over a kids integra..I'll post vids a little later.
Mean Mirror, don't invest in a board or bindings until you have way better boots. I promise it will make your riding so much happier.
