Denver deserves it, the team not the city.
Denver has quickly became not only a hotbed of lacrosse but as of right now, THE hotbed of lacrosse. The University of Denver is producing great players such as Matt Brown and Geoff Snider. The Mammoth of the NLL just won the Championship with a few players that are on the Outlaws. While Baltimore (the lacrosse capital of the world) is scrounging for 3,000 people to watch a game, Denver's lowest attendance of the year was 8,800. So for the sake of lacrosse and the city of Denver, why shouldn't they win?

I think Philly Deserves it. They lost twice to boston in the regular season, only to win when it counts. Not only that but Philly played teams with a lot more talent rather than denver who played the west coast teams more often. Teams they should have beat regardless aka the Machine and RipTide. Lastly Boyle is sick and so is Spallina, he brings so emotion and character to the game. I'm rooting for philly on this one

I was hoping for Boston, but since they lost to Philly I am going to say the Philly wins it.

I'm rooting for Philly on this one. They have a sick defense.
But it would also be really cool to see an expansion team win in its inaugural year.

PHILLY. PHILLY. PHILLY.
Close but denvers got it although i wouldnt be that surprised if Philly pulls it off. A low scorign game would definately give Philly a chance cause no doubt Denvers offense is stacked and their dmiddies are good, but Philly's D is better and its gonna take a really good defensive game for Philly to win

First of all, Being a Cannons fanit sucks seeing another final four where they come up empty!
I haven't seen Denver play this year, Have read and heard quite a bit and I'm looking fowartd to see the matchup.
From a neutral point of view Denver has to be the pick just because the whole lacrosse community of Colorado is on fire. From the Mammouth to Geoff Snider, Mike Law, Jamie Munro, Gary Gait the whole scene is just such a major force in 2006.
I can't wait to see the faceoff battle between Cantabeane and Snider, they match up that should have been at the Worlds!

I thought that the game got a little dirty. That slash by Tierney was unnecessary. Colsey was awesome though.

yea, from my point of view denver had too many penaltys kinda like the bandit did in the nll championship. otherwise i thought it was total domintaion from philly and cantabeane. quick question.......what was up with the grass....it looked like they put new grass out there in some spots.

The field looked terrible. Embarrasing if ask me. Championship game in a pro sport and they played on a field that looked like that. MLL is not big time, and it has not arrived.
NCAA is still the 'championship' game!

Denver got owned in the faceoff department. Philly gave them a free clinic, I think tiereny got frustrated early and let in some soft goals. Doughrty was amazing in close. Overall bad game, bad attendance and an awful looking field.

I was there for the Semi's on Fri Nite - What a horrible turnout - maybe a 1000 people but I doubt it. They have to move the team out of Carson and to the OC or SD.

Hmm...
Cantabene was 27-36 in the faceoff department
Snider was 5-15.
It's been said before, Cantabene at the World's would have changed the whole turnament.

Great point ment to say that too. I mean this is the Championship!!! It had like half dark green half light and no sideline or midfield white.

i guess the field didn't look good on t.v. or the computer or wtv. but it's actually a pretty nice field.
and it definately is properly painted.

I agree, it's a champuonship game and for random people who went to Espn2 when it was playing looked on that field and it makes us look cheap.

I just wanted to say even though the turnout for games in LA is low they still have the 3rd highest attendance in the league. By the way friday night the attendance was 3223 people and on sunday the attendance was a little below 6000.

among the folks that i trust, those numbers are stretched beyond belief. the fact is that aeg, the big daddy of sports promotion, had a whole summer to pull this off. i'm not impressed by their results.

thos numbers are probably the number of ticketes that were bought, which is always way more for MLL games than the amount of people that show up.

How could there only be 6000 at the title game for such a big time venue? Maybe they will have it in Denver next year. Didn't Denver get somethink like 11,000 at one of their first few games? Not really sure why MLL attendance cant be booming, especially in other parts of the country that doesnt regularly get to see college lacrosse on a live basis. Thats disappointing for the growth of the MLL

QM,
The venue was not that big. The Home Depot Complex is HUGE. This complex has many different capacity stadiums. The championships were held on one of their smaller ones. I was surprised at its size. But its better to look half full in a 10,000 seat stadium, then to look nearly empty in a 90,000 seater.
As for next year, Denver is a given, unless something dramatic happens.
BTW: The shots from Championship Weekend are up on my site:

Half full? It looked scarily empty....even at the smaller stadium. The whole weekend was an embarrassment for the MLL. The people in charge at the MLL are running this league into the ground. Time for a change.....if it is not already too late.

I believe a factor for having the game in LA was for the weather - which was perfect. The revenues were from television and presenting the league across the country to their target viewers. The fact that the stands were not full is more representative of the "newness" of the sport outside of the east coast, LA culture, and options available on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I'm sure the league would have liked full stands, but I think great games broadcast live to new fans across the country on ESPN2 was a bigger benefit. If you want to get a feel for where the league is positioned, take a look at who the sponsors are. Very impressive companies / brands.
As for the field, I was at all three games and the grass was fine. Typical "east coast" grass types do not thrive in the arid Southern California climate. Remember that there were two games played on Friday evening. I don't think any of the players were complaining.
As for Denver, their attendance is outstanding. But also understand that the ownership also owns the NFL team and (I think) the stadium. Lots of cross marketing going on there. If the Chicago, Philadelphia, or Baltimore teams were owned by the NFL owners don't you think there would be a little pressure to the NFL season ticket holders? A little better media coverage less there be reduced access to the NFL team? It happens.

how are they running it into the ground when they are constantly expanding..??
this league, is starting to turn a profit.. something that most pro leagues take years, and years to do..
Don't believe the hype. This league is struggling from the top down. Expansion (other than Colorado) has been a disaster. No one showed up to games in SF, LA or CHI. Expansion, without a plan for growth, is not a good idea.
The only way that the league is showing progress is by cutting or shifting costs. They are not generating any new revenue. That is not growth. When was the last new meaningful sponsor added? League-wide paid attendance was attrocious this year.
Where is the money coming from? Don't believe the hype.

Actually, Denver AVERAGED 11,000 a game over the entire season. They got 16,000+ for the game with 4th of July fireworks. I thought Denver was a natural fit for the MLL championship last year or next year. Unfortunately, I've since discovered that the MLL championship weekend occurs during the NFL pre-season so the Outlaws get booted for the Broncos. It's still awesome they get to play in such a beautiful facility, but don't expect to see the '07 MLL Championship there unless the league organizes well in advance with the Outlaws/Bronco front office.

they will probaly just try to have a away pre season game during the weekend to fit in the MLL playoffs

They will make more with a pre-season football game then with a MLL Championship game so I don't think they will be booting out the Bronco's for that weekend.
If Jake was the least bit smart, he would book the stadium now for next year's game. There is little chance that another team's average attendance will grow by 6,000 people so even if Denver looses fans next year they will still have the highest attendance numbers in the league. Of course this is bad because then where will they play in 2008? It's hard having only 1 team that can draw more then flies for a game.
