I want to get a Xbox, good or bad? I currently have a PS2, and I'm slightly mad at the limited online capabilities. I heard Live for Xbox was insanely awesome.
I also want to get an iPod, good or bad? I dont have any sort of MP3 player now. And I dont feel like burning CD's everyday.

Xbox Live is pretty sweet, but you have to pay. And you need a sepreate modem i believe. what dont you like about the online ps2? just curious. Yes, get an iPod, almost everyone will agree, considering theres only been like 30 or so discussions on them. Enjoi is the man to talk to on an iPod. P.S. are you rich? mannnnn a new xbox and an ipod...

Xbox- Depends on what type of games you play. I would take a PC over an Xbox anyday for online gaming, since there are so many more games and ways to customize them.
Ipod- I don't have one, but as I'm sure you know, they're easily one of the best harddrive based mp3 players. I personally just have an mp3-cd player, which is fine for me. You can get one for under $100 to $150+, and they play as many songs as you can fit on one cd, I have around 300 on each. If you have the money though, I'd probably go with an Ipod. Just make sure you get a newer model, the older ones have major battery issues.

Can we make a sticky about Mp3 players so i dont have to repeat myself....?
Xbox - Yes, it kicks ***, and if you mod it you can keep games for ultra cheap on it...
iPod - Get a 20 giger, and then i shove my 40 giger in your face and be like 30 GIGS OF MUSIC *****!!!

Modding an x box would mean putting a mod chip (hence the name) in to play burned games. You can also put in a bigger HD if you want to, but its not really worth it. The only thing that I would do, if I got an x box would be to get a mod chip put in. I don't suggest you do it your self, because if you screw it up you are out 100 bucks.
Try and find a place in your area where they will do it while you wait. Check the newspaper in the classifieds. Modding usually costs between 25-50 dollars. I also suggest that you DON'T send it away to be modded, because the people can steal parts out of your x box and you would never know. Also just to let you know, once you open up your x box it voids the warranty, so make sure you buy one used off of a fried or pray that nothing goes wrong with it because you will never be able to send it back to Microsoft after that!

No, I'm not rich, I have a birthday coming up. I'm still at the age of parental gifts. Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to ask for money + I'm going to have a party. And I want an Xbox and a iPod. And I'm buying Glads, and starting an etrade account with all my money.
What would I need to burn games, a DVD burner?
enjoi
06-09-2004, 12:37 PM
No no no, you want to buy a mod chip install it and put a bigger hard drive in there, its relatively complicated so if you dont know what you are doing i may not do that...
http://www.xboxmods.com.au/ looks interesting.... But i dont know anything about them, all my friends modded their own Xbox's themselves.
If you want though you can get a ton of free movies for relatively low cost...
1. DVD Burner+-/RW burner
2. DVD Shrink
3. Nero
4. Blockbuster Movie pass (25$, one month only)
5. Blank DVD+R(s)
And that is all you need to h4xxor DVDs

iPod's are amazing. i have one and can't say enough about it. the dell jukebox is a pile. a friend of mine got one and now wants an iPod.
x-box is also really cool. i've got ps2 as well and even though there are more games out for ps2, the games for x-box are really nice and the live feature is really cool too.
basically get both :)

You can make XBox games and im almost definite PS2 games with a DVD burner and some knowhow. think it requires a mod chip as well.

I have a 15gb Ipod and I love it. I figure 3,700 songs is really enough room for me, plus I don't think I have 10,000+ songs to put on the 40gb Ipod. It's also useful to use has a backup hard drive to your computer.

It's not really just an mp3 player. For most kids it is, but I know a few people who also use it as a back-up hard drive. You can save documents on it, and this kid has like all the Family Guy episodes on it. It can be very useful, crap 20,000 songs that is a lot. I only have like 500 on my Ipod.

Is the memory like songs, or time of songs?
enjoi
06-11-2004, 07:56 PM
The size of the iPod refers to how much data you can hold in the ipod, because how many songs you can put into an iPod is dependant on several things:
Bit rate ripped at, actual length of the song, and the encoder used. iTunes is a great encoder, but use the AAC encoder when ripping with iTunes.

Ok first of what does "back-up" games mean? And can you tell everyone here on this thread how to do it. And tell us the xbox forums websites.
Aust.MaleLaX
06-11-2004, 08:26 PM
back-up ='s copy/pirate lol
and to tell u here would takeup to much time, if ya want links ill emal them
for starters u need a moddified xbox ,with at least a exucutor II chip, you need evolution x dashboard installed, you need a router or a network card,in you computer, u need cat 5 X-over cable (enuff to go from the xbox to p/c), u need flash ftp installed on your p/c...
then you need a +/- dvd burner and finally nero 6(it has settings for the xbox)
if your mates have "backedup' games allready you can back up them backups easy, u just use nero or record now max, and do a one to one copy , its easy this way as the game has allready been 'backed-up'
if ya want more info ,just ask cya M8

Aust.MaleLaX
06-11-2004, 08:37 PM
except the actualy mod chip and cable /router all the software can be used on a trail basis, and i'll almost garentee it all the way from Australia that, where you get the chip in,the guy will put all the software u need on the xbox harddrive....
Im not sure on prices outside Australia but my chip $65 Router $100 cat5 $2 thats all it costs me....
Just a hint if you can afford it get a bigger hard drive put in the same time u get chip, u can go upto a 200gig drive, its best to play games off the hard drive to save the laser, and besides with a bigger h/d u can hire from blockbuster and .backup to harddrive ;)

Agreed, but their are alot of programs for the windows version as well.
The mac community(SP?) has had alot more time to develop working software for it.
The windows community only recently had a chance to start making programs...

yeah, you put the itunes cd in that comes with the ipod and it works for both macs and windows. if you get the ipod you need to buy a 2.0 usb port because the one that comes with it only works for macs, i think if you get the mini it comes with it...just not for the regular ipod....=(
