Hey guys,
So I have an Xbox (not 360) in my room and I've been wanting to get Xbox Live for it. The only problem is my computer (and internet router) is downstairs so I can't connect my Xbox to it with an Ethernet Cable. I was wondering if I could somehow move the router I have on my computer upstairs, connect it to my Xbox via an Ethernet cable and then buy another router for my computer (to replace the one I want to use in my room).
Does anyone know if this will work or have any other ideas. I really don't want to buy one of those $150 wireless Xbox things (besides there are none in any stores I've gone to).
Any help or advice would be great. Thanks.

Yes, my router is wireless. My laptop connects through it (wirelessly) so I'm quite sure it is. And I have checked Ebay, but all the prices are pretty expensive especially with duties and taxes (not to mention shipping and the currency conversion). They would all be over $100. I'm wondering if I could buy a $30 router from Future Shop or Best Buy. Some place like that.

I had the same situation. all you have to buy is i think its called a patch cord and plug it into the router and patch it to your room. This is what my dad did. I cant really explain it though

What do you mean "patch it to my room"? Like plug it into my router and then plug it into my Xbox and into the wall or something?

That sounds pretty easy. But what do I put into my Xbox? I think there has to be something in the Ethernet plug.

ok, if the router us wireless, you can buy a wirelss hub that plugs into the xbox, i used one for my old xbox, you also need to know what channel the router runs on, A, B, G, or N. this is your best bet

Should they have those at Future Shop or Best Buy? And how much do they run for?

better idea. get a wireless card for your pc, move the router upstairs to your room. plug your xbox in and enjoy.

The only thing is there are about 3 cables already connected to my router and my laptop is also connected wirelessly through the router. I really don't know how it would work.

Ok, so I'm thinking of getting the Linksys WGA11B Wireless-B Game Adapter for like $40 shipped from TigerDirect.ca
So all I have to do is connect it to my Xbox and get it on the right channel that my router is on? Can anyone explain? And will it work for sure?

Ah. Same exact thing happened to me. This is what you do.
Connect the ethernet cable to your laptop and then connect that to your xbox. Go on your laptop and make it so the internet connection can be shared. Then turn off everything ( computer, router, laptop, xbox, tv etc...) and turn it back on. Try that.
This might help some if you have trouble.

The laptop is actually my parents not mine, so that's not really an option. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Just plug it in when your parents aren't using it. Same thing with me. You think a 7th grader is gonna have a lap top of his own?

Yea, but that's kind of a hassle. And what happens when I want to use Xbox Live but they're using the computer? I'd rather have something in my room thatll be accessible any time I want.

But in the mean time you could do that?
