version 1
Little Johnny was sitting there
All by his lonesome self
When the cool clique passed by him
And he asked them for help
He said what can I do to be like you.
What can I do today?
What can I do to be so cool?
I wanna start today
They said if you want to be like us
Then give a cigarette a light
It’s the cool thing to do
You have nothing to lose
Now Johnny is hooked on nicotine
Nothing that he can do
The cool kids left him in the dust
They said you’re smoking’ too much
It’s the popular killer
No matter what they say
It doesn’t have a filter
You’re throwing your life away
After all that Johnny’s still not cool
Guess it was a bad mistake
Now he can’t enjoy himself
Cause he lost his smell and taste
15 years later Johnny’s all by his self
It reminds him of those days
None of the girls would go out with him
Because of his smoking ways
Johnny visited the doctor
He has to go frequently
He recently suffered a stroke
And now he has heart disease
Now Johnny is depressed now
The cigarettes take an effect
On your psychological well being
That a psychiatrist needs to inspect
It’s the popular killer
No matter what they say
It’s got no filter
You’re throwing your life away
At age 35 Johnny has cancer
Its spread all the way to his lungs
He sat there so silently
Saying how did I get it so young
It’s because he started smoking
Just to try to be cool
Well that didn’t work and it wasn’t worth
All of these problems abrew
Now Johnny’s in bed laying there dead
It all caught up to him
This all could have been avoided
If he had self confidence
All of these terrible problems
Leading to the death of this man
Could have been easily avoided
If he put down his foot
Cigarettes are not worth
All the pain that they make
Not just physical But emotional
they take you life away
More people need to stand up
And tell everybody its wrong
And people need to do the right thing
Instead of trying to be cool
It’s the popular killer
No matter what they say
It doesn’t have a filter
You’re throwing your life away
version 2
Come give it a light
Oh please just ignite it
You’ll smoke your way
To your early grave
You’re feeling so stupid
Why did you start doing this?
It’s just a waste
Of your smell and taste
It’s the popular killer
No matter what they say
It’s got no filter
You’re throwing your life away
Now you’re lying down
In the hospital downtown
The doctor looks grim
He says son your gunna leave us
You’re frozen with shock
It felt so surreal
The saddest thing is
It’s not the ironic sort of thing
It’s the popular killer
No matter what they say
It’s got no filter
You’re throwing your life away
It’s serious now
Its spread to your lungs
All this abuse
Has made them useless
Now they’re trying to find
If it’s cancerous or benign
They’re thinking
They can still save your life
It’s just too late
All that for this fate
U should have just quit
Instead of trying to fit in to that “crowd”
It’s the popular killer
No matter what they say
It’s got no filter
You’re throwing your life away
