Hi, im a junior in highschool and i am very new to lacrosse and i was wondering if there was a place to learn about the game more and pick up basic skills. I bought a warrior Xacto/alloy 2000 pre made stick, a pair of STX gloves and elbow pads. 2 years ago i tried out for my schools team (St. Doms in Lewiston, Maine) but was horrible. The first day after the first day of week long tryouts i was told by my couch i couldnt play due to my grades (long story) but i really wanted to play. I havent really touched my stuff for 2 years since i dont go to that school anymore. I feel like i failed at it seeing everyone else like 5x better at me. I didnt buy a helmet because i was told i could get a free one from the school so i didnt even bother getting one after that. I think my town has a team but im sure they arnt good. Thats kinda a good thing in a way so that i wont feel like im the worst on the team. If i could have some background in lacrosse before the season starts i would try out and see if i could play. I really dont do much phisical activity cus i have low self esteem about myself, but im a well build guy. I would probley be best suited for D but i dont have a long stick but w/e Basicly what im asking is if someone has any info on a crash course on lacrosse or a camp that i could go to next summer around Maine, it would be much apreciated.

First-- That Lacrosse shaft is pretty clean...You need to get that thing dirty. Use your stick, its the best advice anyone will be able to give you if you really want to get better at lacrosse.

Build your fundamentals!!! Lacrosse is such a great sport because if you really want to play then you can practice on your own and become a lot better. Is there a school with a brick wall by your house? Or even a baseball cage you can shoot at? If so thats all you need for now. Head over to those spots with a couple balls and play some wallball. Get good left and right handed. Practice shooting, passing, and catching. Really just get used to a lacrosse stick as much as you can.

You want a crash course on Lacrosse? Read this--

That should help you out a good bit. Also check out our Tactics and Training forum. It was made to help people like you out.

if you have gloves, wear them the whole time you are doing wallball
