Was introduced to my school this year and its my first day of going through it. I'm in my first period of the day and im already bored out my mind. we dont have ANY thing to do the teacher went over some stuff for 5 mins and now we have and hour and 25 mins to just sit around and mess with computers. i think the only teacher ready for this is my english one and i dont have him today. i pray the rest of the day goes by a lil bit faster cause this is going to kill me. i was wondering who else has to live through this heck? and your views on it.

I used to work in a resturant that went dead each summer. Seriously, no one ate there during the day shifts. So I just brought in a book and read for like 7 hours a day for 2 months.

I know how you feel I used to have block scheduling for 2 years and the first couple of days we didnt do anything but sit around. At least you had computers, we could just talk and play cards.

dont worry ive been in my high school, well this will be my fourth year, and weve had block scheduling since i was a frosh. sometimes it goes by quick and sometimes it doesnt, your teachers are still trying to test out their lesson plans to fill the whole block. just be patient theyll figure it out sooner or later. good luck

block scheduling is bad during the school day, but afterwards, you get half the homework and twice the time to do it in.

we have block sceduling but since we have 7 periods we get to have 1st period everyday for an hour, but it includes the morning announcements. the other 3 classes are 90 minutes.

What is block scheduling??

In Canada in high school. You have either semestered or non-semesterd schools. Semestered means you have two semesters in the year with 4 classes each semester. So the same 4 classes everyday for half the year. (Thats what i had and liked it). Non-semestered is you have 8 subjects all year round. Then 8 exams at the end of the year.

block scheduling is sort of like your semestered, but insetead you have the same 4 classes every other day all year round, and the other 4 classes on the other days.

i started block scheduling in 8th grade. i used to hate it, but you get used to it. and my teachers usually give us time to do our homework in class, so i listen to my ipod and finish it, so basically i never have to do homework.

We have block scheduling. But we have A/C snd B/D days.

So every mon, wed, fri you'd have subjects A, B, C and D. Then every tuesday and thursday you'd have subjects E,F,G and H?

Why would this cause so much free time?

we have block scheduling. you can take up to 8 semester long classes (we have two semesters in a year)
on one day you have 4 classes and the next day you have the other 4 classes.

Our school is simple. We have A and B days. On A days you go to a different class one period. On B days you go to the other class.

We are sorta like that. On A days you go to electives for 50 minutes and core classes ( English, social studies, Math, Science) for 100 minutes ( block. ) Electives are language, PE, and then like band or something. Plus lunch.

I love block scheduling... my A day is Tech, English, Marine science, and computer programming... my B day is gym, US hist, algebra II, and principles of business mgt (might switch to foods)

Dont worry about it. Its really only the first week that this happens. Other wise theres no reason that teachers dont have enough to teach, they could just simply combine two days worth of lessons. THis may be your first time with block scheduling, but I doubt its theirs.

I've been doing block scheduling my entire high school career, and Im a senior so I pretty much know everything there is to know about block scheduling. Having longer classes is really the only bad thing, if you are used to like 45 min. classes. However, after a few weeks at the Block system, you get used to it and you come to wonder how you ever actually learned anything while taking 45 minute classes. But basically, i love it.

Here's my Blue-day schedule: Calculus, AC Lab (free/study hall), AP English, then i dont have a last period b/c im a senior and im tight—so i go home at 12

then my White-day: Post 1945 history, AP Environmental Sci, AP U.S., Newspaper

Whats nice about this system is that generally, there is less homework, you get more done in class so you have even less homework, it provides a way to escape the monotony of school.

I have block scheduling, it's awesome. I almost always end up getting between 10-20 minutes to do homework and we cover more material than we would with just 45 minute classes.

I had it in middle school, and in some ways I preferred it. Now, with classes I hate I love them being 45 minutes, because it goes by fast. However in classes that I like, or classes where a test is going on, I miss the block periods.

The first hour of my gym class all we did was sit on the floor and have the teachers go on and on about nothing related to the class at all then they where like okay go changes and we will play dogeball. My english teacher was also very boring....he talkes really quiet and slow...im not sure if i have homework or not

Oh and i dont do the block system but we have hour classes

My HS tried this out, but i was terrible, so we went back to 8 40min classes on a rotating schedual. It just seemed so long and monotonous

We have block and its sick as long as the teachers know how to use it. Its good for seniors too, because they have 3 sometimes 4 blocks free per semester, as apposed to me who is a soph and only has one. I know kids that only have to come to school three days a week.

my school is like this:

Odd days are periods 1,3,5,7

Even days are periods 2,4,6,7

periods 1-6 are 83 minutes and period 7 is 53 minutes i think.

i love it, like someone else said i think its better for homework. classes do get boring but whatever

I like block scheduling it was introduced to our school this year. Seems to be less homework and you can easily organize your **** more with less classes a day.

I've had block scheduling since sixth grade. Man. I HATE it. Classes drag on forever, and you can only stand that one kid with allergies who sits in the corner for so long. On top of that, its way too easy to drift off and miss half the lesson.

The only upside is that you have less homework every night.

On the other hand, if you are a junior or senior, and have played your cards right, you can only be coming to school a few days a week. It has its ups and downs.

are they getting into college signing up for only 3 classes their senior year? because i doubt that; senior year schedules are looked at by colleges, and 3 classes doesnt look too good.

i've had block scheduleing since 7th grade and if i've learned anything int hose years, it was that you generally only need to be there for one of the two hours. so once you know what hour your teacher actually teaches and doesnt make you do pointless busy work. you need when to show up.
if you show up for the lesson and actually try to learn and are proactive you will do good on your test and get good grades. as for the busy work the most teachers have count for like 5% of your grade you just copy or dont do that work because it doesnt count for **** anyways.

I've had block scheduling since 6th grade. Now I'm entering 11th grade. It's fine for me...as long as I don't have all my boring classes on the same day.

7 periods a day, 56 minutes each on a 4 day rotation.

most classes except for gym you have 3 out of the 4 days, but you might have them at different times to accommodate the other classes you have.

i like the idea of block scheduling, except for no study hall, but thats just for some good laughs/times.

Who said you couldn't have a study hall? Freshman year we were required to have academic study 2 periods out of the 4 day cycle. Academic study is just a fancier way of saying a study hall. Anyways, through out all of my years, including this year as a senior, I have always had at least one period that was an academic study, most of the time I would have two. Then, as a senior, if you schedule them right, you can just take late arrival or early dismissal. Both are self-explanatory.
