I'm just a little confused on the bad first post rule. Why would you get permanently banned for a bad first post? Shouldn't you be a bit more lenient on the first post because it's the users first time here and they wouldn't know the ropes as well. I know you could say, "they should read the rules", but noone knows everything. Just looking for some clarifications.

"bad first post" is aimed at people whose first post is either commercial spam or a complete and utter flame or attack. i.e. people who have just come here to cause trouble, and have no interest in being part of our community or following our rules

It was the best wording we could give to those seeking nothing more than free advertising. There are 2 degrees of spamming, that which someone does intentionally to spread the word about their or a friend's website (free advertising), and then there's the degree of spam thats just for promotional use to scam people into paying for some rediculous service (ie. buy my brand new cell phone deal!!!111).
You need 2 degrees of punishment, and we can't call them the same thing, as mods will get confused.

Oh I get it now. So it's to ban people who are just trying to do all that stuff you said instead of actually being part of TLF. Thanks for clearing it up.

you arent going to get whacked with bad first post for failing to search or something like that on your first post.
