Its all preference...a couple of poles on my team wore em, but that was because they stopped a lot of shots with their body.

well rib and kidney pads are to different things. for field you deffinately(sp) won't need to use rib & kidneys like in box, for d you shoudn't need any kind of rib pads generally attackmen where the regular rib pads.

they arent neccesary by the rules, but if you want you can. i thought i needed them until one day, i lost them, and i played. i got hit by the ball in the stomatch because i was standing in front of the goalie playing d and i didnt feel much of it. its probably from shock, but it did leave a bruise. just depends now many bruises you want

For defenemen, playing at high level lax, I would reccomend them because my cousing at Princeton got one right in the there and was coughing up blood.
ya know that internal bleeding can kill

For defence in field, probably not. It's not a bad idea to have them, but there usually not needed at that position. My friend got kicked in the kidneys 2 days ago in a soccer game and started peeing blood later that night. It wasn't even that hard of a kick, so they might not be a bad thing to look into.

depends what position attack i would say yes because d-poles spear and poke you middies you need to grow balls is you wear them unless you have bad kidney(s) my freind has one so he has to. defence... preference if you play crease yes yes yes due to spleen rupturing from getting hit with the ball and attackmen slash alot

If your attack or more a Offensive Middie, And you play at a higher level, Such as varsity and you are getting hacked there and you don't have good kidney's or rib's then yeah, you should most likely invest in some rippads or kidney pads.

Here's a true story. A friend was playing in a mens league game when him and another guy went for a ground ball coming from opposite directions. The player from the other team slipped and went headfirst into my friend, sort of like taking an opponent off a loose ball only with his head.
His helmet caught my friend right in the kidneys, and he wasn't wearing pads there. He kept playing but complained about a pain. By the time he got home the pain was so bad he layed down and took a couple asperins. It got so severe his wife rushed him to the hospital, where it was discovered he had a cut in his kidney and blood was swelling up inside. They rushed him into surgery to repair the damage. The doctors said his kidney almost burst, which would have killed him.
I make my son wear his kidney pads. Better safe than sorry. I know it was a freak accident but just because it might not be cool to wear them, no one sees them, so wouldn't you want the protection since those pads don't affect mobilty at all?

I dont think its neccesary, but if it's bugging you then id wear them just to get it off my mind. You should try it out and see if you more confident with them or not.
