Im thinking Cuse has so a very good chance, but then again Hopkins could be a contender. Its funny how we all say hopkins or syracuse. No wildcards out there?

How about UVA, folks? Take arguably the most dominant NCAA team in decades, return 3 attackman with all 40+ points AND a feeding attackman with the last name "Gill", a proven starting goalie, several legitimate midfielders, one of the best coaches in the NCAA, and TLF's own Mike Britt. In my opinion, they return too much talent to be dropped down in the poll to start off.
I admit guys, Syracuse and Hopkins DO look good next year. But each team did fairly poorly last year for their standards. Duke was only ranked ahead of Hopkins (in a very disputed fashion, in fact) this year because they lost to Hopkins in a nailbiter, they were arguably more dominant than Hopkins was during the regular season, and Hopkins practically lost their entire roster. Syracuse and Hopkins were ranked too low last year to make such a jump.

The other thing that people haven't seen is Danny Gladding turned loose on the field. Starsia has kept him on the field for intervals, but had you seen the scrimmages, you would have seen a totally different player. I am no fan of UVa, but he had me clapping for his playing ability. Regardless of my bias, I am not blind to incredible talent. And for those of you who know me, I was clappng for him during the scrimmage against Navy who I support with everything I can whenever I can.
In conclusion, with graduation of some top-notch players, be prepared to see more of Gladding on the field.
I still pray for the Mids to win.

Duke will want it bad starting off this year, because they might feel like they need to show everybody a bounce back from last year's fiasco and prove they can still be a highly competitive team after such a thing. In my opinion though, I think they need a few more years to become contenders for it.

Maryland will be good. They are returning all of their defense. Sure they lost Walters, McGlone, Healy, etc. but they will still be good. Not as good, but still good.

y does every one says syracuse has so much returning talent?
u lost bucktooth, yevoli, and crockett . u had horrible D-fense last year with a horrible goalie.
every one thinks dan hardy is so good, hes okay.
sorry cuse fans i hate cuse, im a huge hop fan.

I think UVA will be very good. Adding on to Lax101, they also have Kip Turner returning, I believe, and Ricky Smith, Mike Timms ( YAY!) and Matt Kelly. Am I right? That is a beast of a defense.
Be prepared to see some new faces on middie and attack. This year, I think that UVA will be going for depth instead of 1 or 2 power houses. I might be a little biased, but you might even see Ryan Kelly getting some playing time on middie or attack. I just love my Cape Henry guys.....

great...... you are in love with paul rabil and crew. syracuse always has a not so great defense but they return every one of their starters on d. their midfield will only get better and they did not loose leville. you still have two more years of watching him tear up hop. plus dan hardy wasnt even their best frosh last year even though who knows what he could have done if he played his natural position. cuse might not be ranked number one but they defienently have returning talent and should make a run at the national championship
Preseason number ones almost always mirror where teams ended last year, with small shifts up and down. While I'm not saying Syracuse or Hopkins won't end up at or near the top, they won't start there. By the way, Cuse is going down to Cornell this year, no doubt.
So the number 1 preseason pick should be UVa

dude cuse is nasty this year and how do they loose leveille last year lol he was sophmore. They will have the best line up in the country with nims levielle hardy at attack rommel brooks perrit and mid and brady guadagnolo and bucktooth at d but they need a steady goalie
the only way i see that is if max seibald goes crazy, panerlli will lock him down hopefully
And what, leave Pittard to feed Mitchell all night? Also, Seibald will be/is an absolutely dominant midfielder and Panarelli is too aggressive, concerned with making the big play. Let's not forget the Cornell has a legitimate first team all-america caliber goalie in McMonagle while Cuse is stuck with the wildly inconsistent Coluccini in net

I'm really quite surprised how much Cuse and Hop are getting mentioned when Uva hasn't gotten much talk at all. UVa put together a dominating season thsi past spring. Sure they lose Ward, Dixon, Poskay, Morrisey and Culver, but return goalie Kip Turner and two starters on D (Smith and Kelly)and a host of offensive talent (Rubeor, Glading, Billings, Giannone) and Drew Thompson on face-offs. I don't see how they don't get the #1 heading into next season.

I agree. I am not even a fan, but UVa will be posted at #1 I am sure. I strongly doubt that either John's-Hopkins or Syracuse will be at the top, regardless of how much some of their fans on this Forum hope they will be. I think that Navy will be listed at around #10-12 much to my frustration.

I think Syracuse will be good, like alot of people said the will have alotta of talent on offense, but defense also will be pretty good with Steve Panarelli.
I also think Duke will comeback very agressive, considering they missed all last season.

Virginia no doubt. They are still absolutely loaded with talent, some of which we haven't seen in action yet. I don't care what any of you syracuse diehards say, Rubeor, Glading, Billings and Gill still make up the best attack unit in the nation. Their defense is returning 2 starters, not including Turner. The only problem could be the midfield, but they should still be able to scrounge together two good lines, led by Thompson.

Syracuse, without a doubt, they have a good freshman class coming in they have perritt and hardy are gonna be starters from the season opener, panarelli anchoring the defense and helping the transition game, and then there's leveille is gonna have another big year and nims and abbott are gonna get a lot of reps, goalie is the only big ????

Syacuse will crack top ten, but i dont know about top five, their D was suspect last year, and their G was very unimpressive when i saw him...against rutgers, and in other games.
How about Princeton, return a boatload of talent, an awesome goalie, and their top 8 scorers, three of whom were frosh last year.
Of the players who had any points, assists or goals, they lose four. If anyone saw their game against UVa you saw how good they could play. They lose one defender, who i dont even think started. They are going to be a powerhouse, and with Hewitt entering his JUNIOR year, they will have a rock solid defense

Guys, ever year the preseason ranks reflect directly on the ending of the previous year. Virginia will be number one because they won the national championship last year and have even some semblance of their team returning. It's that simple

You guys forgot about duke........i think the will start off good
I agree Duke will rebound well, but this thread is about who will have the #1 PRESEASON RANKING! There is no way you can expect a team who didn't even get to play half their season to come back and immediately be #1. This isn't a "prediciton for how next season will go" thread, its about the preseason rankings.
I can see arguments for Syracuse, but UVa still will get it. Hops wasn't at memorial weekend, UMass graduated their two best players and don't have guys to fill in those spots, and Maryland graduated a host of offensive talent. Hofstra didn't make the final four trip either, plus they graduated alot of guys and their key guy on offense, Unterstein. Princeton, while still having everyone from last year, didn't finish strong enough last year either (out of the top 5).

Virginia is returning to many players from their national championship team to be dropped in the polls just yet, their defense is going to be amazing returning Kip Turner and Matt Kelly. Also Notre Dame will be a lot better returning 7 starters.
