For all you high school kids, what's you GPA?

Assuming I didn't bomb this one exam, I will come through with a 3.4857 for the year. I finally decided I cared about my grades and tried in all my classes except math causing me to ace 6 classes in the fourth quarter. I didn't put in any effort freshman or sophmore year and only got slightly above a 3.0 in both. So right now I'm looking at an accum of around 3.2. Pretty ****ty average but what can ya do.

GeorgiaMiddie2

i've got a 3.29.. kinda ****ty, but it's because, like gKash, i didnt try my first two years of school... got a few d's and c's, so comin into junior year, i didnt even have a 3.0... tose of you who are barely startin high school, learn a lesson from my ****ty example... work hard your first 2 years of high school. teachers are alot more lenient these years and it's easier to get better grades early. itherwise, you'll be working your *** off your last two years of school to bring your gpa back up.

and, our grading scale is like this
5= 100+
4= 90-100
3= 80-89
2=74-79
1=70-73

my school goes like this, except teachers change it.

A=100-93
A-=90-92
B+=87-89
B=83-86
B-=80-82
C+=77-79
C=73-76
C-=70-72
D+=67-69
D=63-66
D-=60-62
F+=57-59
F=57 and below. so i consider that regular, whereas your schools have it all weird.

how the hell do you guys get weighted GPA's? how does that work?... i've never heard of such a thing

anjang86
06-11-2004, 09:24 AM
weighted GPA's are GPA's that have the AP or IB classes added to them so thats where and A is a 5 B is a 4 C is a 3... etc.

bpjoyce10
06-11-2004, 09:27 AM
AP or IB classes give you extra weight. anyways, i had a 3.3 cumulative in high school, unweighted. like a 3.65 weighted. i ad a 3.0 first semester of college, 2.4 second, for a 2.64 over all. haha wow that is about a one point drop exactly. next year should be easier though, im taking beginning swimming(ive swam for 8 years) and spanish 203(equivalent to spanish 3 in high school, i got an A in IB spanish 2, or basically spanish for fluent speakers) and french 101, which cant be hard after knowing how to speak spanish

WarriorLax22
06-11-2004, 10:52 AM
i don't think any college really cares about the 4.0 scale. they just look at your grades, put on whatever weights they want, then scale it themselves. for example, i think princeton's average GPA of incoming freshmen is 3.8 or 3.9. but they don't count your freshman year and they re-weigh everything, so if you kinda declined with every passing year, you may have a 3.9 by the end of HS, but you'll get like a 3.5 or something at princeton.

bpjoyce10
06-11-2004, 11:33 AM
yeah dont stress too much in high school if you have a 3.67 and not a 3.69, its really no big deal. if you have a 3.5 and at least a 1300 on your SATs, and do some extracurriculr(lacrosse obviouslt counts) you should be be able to get into pretty good schools. my 3.3 and 1370 SAT could only get me into WVU, but i got a scholarship and i like it there. i always wanted to go to UVA, but from what i hear of it, its a bunch of rich c.ocky southerners who wont talk to you unless youre a member of a country club and drive an infinite SUV and where lacoste every day. i mean, they wear shirts and ties to football games, how ridiculous is that? but hey, maybe thats the school for you, i dont know

GeorgiaMiddie2
06-11-2004, 12:21 PM
oh, wow, you guys treat AP classes differently than us... we just add 10 points to our grade if we take an AP class... so a 72 becomes an 82

bpjoyce10
06-11-2004, 12:39 PM
thats essentially the same. no matter what your grade was, its gonna be exactly 1 gpa point higher if you add 10 percentage points

GeorgiaMiddie2
06-11-2004, 12:58 PM
no, a 72 is actually a D on our scale, so it can actually raise your grade by 2 pts, instead of one

gKash187
06-11-2004, 01:01 PM
you have to have at least C to get your grade weighted here

sumSum
06-11-2004, 05:31 PM
We also have honors classes at my school, which are considered weighted. Last year, frosh year, I had good grades. Second and last quarters GPA was something like a 3.7 and my first was like a 3.4 then my third quarter I got a 4.0 and all of those are unweighted...BUT THEN I GO TO FRIGGIN PREP SCHOOL, WORK MY ARSE OFF AND GET SO-SO GRADES!!!!! I HATE PREP SCHOOL.

No not really, I love my new school, but my grades dropped 'cause of the difference in workload, etc. This year I dont know my GPA because my school doesnt give 'em until senior year if you need it for college. I never got below a B- though and my highest grade was A- in first semester for spanish and third semester for Russian Studies. All in all its not so bad 'cause of the transition but next year I gotta work really hard. I petitioned and got into AP US History so I'm really excited but I know its gonna be hard!!!!! At my school last year honors, AP, and IB was a joke compared to where I am now. At the school I'm at now the stuff is actually hard.

3.72 at this point, factoring a 4.0 (first ever!) for 3rd term. I have the ACT next Saturday, which I want to get about 30 on, and probably will if I can do well enough on science. I like the SAT better. Shorter, two subjects. I got a 1080 when I took it in 7th grade. I want to take it again and see how I do. I'm in an AP class and AP lab class as well as an honors class. Last year I had more honors, but all they are is harder. I wish we had A+'s here. We did in my old school. My math grade last term was a 103. My lowest test score was 101. I love switching from honors math to regular math.

4.6! how do u get that!? the only way to get over a 4 (4.01) in my school is to have more A+'s than A's

100 = 4.01
94-99= 3.70-4.00 (high honors)
88-93= 3.20-3.69 (honors)
83-87= 2.90-3.19 (merit)

dont feel like doing the rest. . .

3-B
2-C
1-D

gpa is the same whether its an A+ or A-

SAT doesnt count for as much as people think. GPA counts a lot, but it also doesnt count for as much as people think. College admins are looking at the whole picture. Take a friend for example. Few leadership positions, varsity field hockey, 3.8 GPA, + 1500 SAT, just found out she got into Harvard.
Dont know how it happened, but I guess her resume as a whole looked great. Or maybe it was a fluke

anyway, i slacked off freshman year, got a 3.5. Im pulling a 3.9-4.0 this year though, i started working pretty hard.

I have a 3.54 on the traditional unweighted A=4 b=3 scale. I take all IB though so weighted would help me. Oh well, my grades and a 1370 SAT werent good enough to get me into Tufts, Vassar, Berkeley, Brown, Trinity or Amherst. Occidental (B division MDIA here I come...) is where Ill play next year.

hm that sounds like a pretty well rounded perfect student to me? so they didnt get a 1600, not everyone who gets in has a 1600 and a 4.5 GPA. plus GPA and SAT are really really important, bnut they arent the only thing that collegs look at when they are considering an applicant

btw my sister has a 4.25 cum GPA, ranked 22 in ehr class, 1400 SAT, capt lacrosse,capt cross country, varsity cross country 4 year, varsity soccer 3 (didnt play senior year), varisty lacrosse 4 years, all american lacrosee, cif lacrosse champs, san diego hall of fame lacrosse, an abundance of volunteer hours and clubs, coaching middle school lacrosse for 2 years, and a crap load more of lacrosse awards
and got rejected from northwestern and UPENN and UVA. then she got waitlisted at UNC and cornell
however she got into: UC Davis, UC san diego, uc berkely, UCLA, USC, univeristy wisconsin madison, Boston college

plus the berkely coach is really interested in her despite the fact that shes from southern california

but then my friend got into UNC with a 1520 SAT, 3.6 ish GPA, no extracurrivulars besides varsity lacrosse for 4 years. so SATs obviously matter to them esp since hes out of state..

there are so many factors to getting itno college.but u cant rule out the importance of grades and SATs. everyone just has to work their asses off to be the perfet freakin well rounded student. screw that im going to community college--4.0 and all
