Learn the various formations and you can make your own plays off of them. You will need to know a couple for offense and defence, man up and man down, and maybe a few for fast-breaks.

A few offensive formations that are common are the 2-2-2 formation, the 2-3-1 formation, and the 1-4-1 formation. The numbers represent how many players are where in respect to the goal.

For the 2-2-2 formation there are 2 players high near the restraining line, 2 players near the crease, and 2 players behind the cage.
For the 2-3-1 there are 2 players up top, 3 by crease, and 1 behind.
For the 1-4-1 there is 1 player up top, 4 around crease, and 1 behind.

You can work a lot of different kinds of plays from these basic formations.

On defense you will have to decide wether you are doing a man or zone defense. And you will have to find a good formation that is best suited for your players. I don't really know much about this since i play attack, so i'll leave this part to the defenders.

For man-up, the most common formation is a crescent around the goal. You work the ball around trying to find a shot. You can have players cut in, change positions, or wheel around the cage to get a shot. It is really up to you.

For man down the most common formation is a box and one formation where the 5 remaining defensive players form a 4 man box [obviously] and theres 1 player in the middle. Your players work out a slide so that at everytime the man with the ball is covered and there is always a slide or help ready.

For fast-breaks the standard formation to run is an L formation. 2 men on crease spread out in a line and 1 man about 15 feet up to run point. The point man is usually the one who gets the ball on a fast break. It looks like this:

----------------x

--------x ------ x
------------V

If you need any more help just ask and i'll help as much as i can.

on the offensive side i would say start off in a 2-3-1 set, this is the easiest (im my opinion) set to get used to. It alsos is very easy to run plays out of, and opens up the field enough for individual efforts.

He said indoor, I assume you're looking at 5v5... Basketball plays would be spot to begin looking & getting ideas. It really depends on your team's strengths.

watch the NBA, and take a look at the motions they run. It isn't quite the same, but you can create various plays based on that. I got a lot of ideas from watching NBA and NCAA for my outdoor team I coached.
