Anyone here from Japan? Drop me a line. I play for Okinawa Lacrosse Club and we are just a bunch of Japanese and Marines that play together and have a good time.
I'm looking to schedule some more games with Japanese teams.

I have often hoped that TLF would pick up in Japan, but I understand that the language can sometimes be a barrier. I would be interested to have more foreign nationalities represented here.

Language is not a barrier. The Japanese are taught english all through grade school and high school. They know broken english for the most part. They are also extremely enthusiastic, and willing to learn. We welcome all Okinawans on the island. They are all great sportsman.

I am alittle new to the island and heard a few things about the club. My gear is in the mail, but i was wondering if the AF can jump in or if its a marine only function.

I'm Japanese but lived in the U.S. all my life. My lax goal is to play for Team Japan.
A little off topic, but how good would you have to be to be on that Team? Like would it be DIII level lax or what? Can someone tell me in camparison to another level of lax (ive only been playing for 2 years..)
Anyway, how old are the people that play in your club league? I'm guessing they are collegiate club teams?

Panther, go on e-lacrosse and download some of the world games clips. The Japanese team are amazing athletes whose only downfall at World level is sheer size and the lack of constant top level competition. The Jap team was extremely competitive with UMBC recently and Hopkins and UNC. So if you are top flight d3 you're in with a shot. Be prepared to have your warm ups to be more intense than anything you've ever seen though!

Your club is open to every branch of service. We have a lot of AF that come out sometimes. Come on out, we practice 11-1300 on saturdays at Camp Foster behind the swimming pool.
Team Japan is a good bunch. A top level DIII would fit in. They definately are the most sportsman like.

There is standard english taught in schools, but because of the importance of schools and work, many private tutor centers/cram schools are a big source for people to get ahead of the curve. Many of these places such as Aeon, Geos or Nova start young for preschool age children to begin learning, and also cater to housewives who wish to pick up english as an extra skill. In some cases the english grammar given is far beyond what Amercian students will ever learn/use and many times the proficiency tests are more based off rote memorizations of book passages that many english speakers have never read.
Okinawa is a bit different in that english is more common place due to the existance of the American base their, both from its proximity and through inter marriage with GIs.

Ok so a little update on Okinawa Lacrosse Club.
Oct. 26th 6 players from my team (all US Marines) met in Hawaii with 6 players from Camp Pendleton California (2 Navy and 4 Marines) to play in the 2006 Hawaii Invitational Lacrosse Tournament. We went 2 and 2 loosing to team Decepticons (Bushwood) by 2 and Crease Monkeys by 13. We won the losers bracket coming in 8th place overall. It was a great time and we definately got the word out for US Marine lacrosse and Okinawa Lacrosse.
Dec. 4th Tokyo Lacrosse Club came to Okinawa to play us. It was a good game with them staying on top for most of the match. By the end it was 12-7 in thier favor. Great bunch of guys though and they will be back in the spring.
Now upcoming events include Team Zipang March 17th and perhaps a Hong Kong or New Zealand trip. We are also trying to get up to Tokyo to play some matches.
October 2007 is also in the books for the 2007 Hawaii Invitational. This time we will come back prepared and hopefully finish in the top 3.
Any teams in Asia that would like to play us please contact me. My email is

The tryout for U19 Team Japan is in spring 2008, however you have to be able stay in Japan for at least couple months for the team practice. And I dont think there will be a u19 team from Hong Kong sammy.

If you were born there, you could have a shot at the four slots (maximum) for non-passport holders

I played with the team japan last sumemr right before the world cup. I am planning to go to Japan/China this upcomming summer along with some former NCAA and MLL players to participate in the friendship games and maybe some clinics/mini camps there.
