my friends dad was a wrestler in college, and he is a pretty built guy and knows a lot about working out. he said that it isn't good to drink protein shakes because it makes your body stop producing protein on its own, so when u get off the shakes, your in trouble. does anyone know for a fact that this is true, false...and if so can u explain it? i tried reading up on dangers in the shakes, but i didnt have any luck--i havent ever drank them myself, but its good to know the details on the topic

I'm pretty sure the body doesn't make its own protein.

Maybe he's talking about testosterone? Maybe he meant testosterone shakes? No, I don't mean it like that.

The way I know is that protein is taken in by your body through meats and alternatives. Proteins are made up of Amino Acids. Your body breaks down protein into the amino acids. I have never heard of protein shakes being bad. It could be one of those myths.

Your dad's friend has no idea what he is talking about. Whey Protein is a byproduct of making cheese (Little Miss Muffet sat on here tuffet, eating her curds and whey). Your body doesn't produce protein, it is found in meat and dairy products. Drinking Whey shakes for protein is better for your body than eating a steak or eggs because there isn't the huge amounts of fat or cholesterol involved.

Perhaps he was talking about meal replacement shakes or weight gainer or something else? As for pure whey protein, it is not bad for you at all. Which is probably why you found nothing about it on the entire internet that has billions of pages of craziness.

i asked one of the trainers at my gym a while ago if anything is good for you and he said the protein bars and shakes are good for you, as long as you dont take too many. He said something about how the protien is used to build muscles, but if you do not work all of your protien in, its just the same as eating carbs b/c it gets broken down the same. its not bad for you tho, its just the same as eating a little more. So the protien stuff does help, too much of it isnt really gonna have bad results on your body.

He may have been talking about creatine or some other muscle gainers b/c those you are only supposed to stay on for like 30 days then take a while off or it has negative results, probably the stop production of something part your talking about. Or the things that give your muscles water mass

no its not that...my friend is an idiot, haha...he probably confused what his dad said to him. his dad probably knows a lot more than any of you because he has been a bodybuilder(not professional, but he is very big) since high school. its one thing to answer my question(thats why it was a QUESTION...i wasnt sure!) but u dont even know my friends dad

you should prolly talk to your friends dad in person. not being mean but your friend prolly misunderstand what his dad said. yes protein is consumed not created. i dont kno of any dangers in protein shakes yet i dont take them so i dont kno too much. so id ask your friends dad personally he should be able to help you if he was a wrestler in college.

your friends dad needs to never speak again. No that is not true, don't worry protein is fine, If you start eating chicken does your body stop making protein? Hmmm let's think for a moment.
